Does anyone know or can someone measure the module size at the Barcelona Pavilion?
I have a book that says it's .82 m but it's wrong about many other things so I am looking for confirmation. Here's the book which gets the number of modules wrong in several places.
according to 'mies van der rohe' by werner blaser the 'travertine floor and wall tiles are on a 1.0-metre module'. the overall plinth is 53 x 17 metres (not including that little bump out in the upper left portion of the plan).
blaser also writes 'An existing block of onyx was split twice, and the slabs, placed on over the other, determined the height of the pavilion (3.1 metres).'
i would think mies would specify the height and not rely on what the onyx slab turned out to be but i suppose if that's what the slab was maybe mies just rolled with it.
Interesting, thanks, FRaC. So I have a 1 meter module in my dwg file and Werner Blaser and .82 m module in the book by the Spanish guys in Barcelona...

I am looking at the Spanish guy's book a little harder and he has the module at 1.09. The .82 is missing the wall thickness.
check this craziness out (pdf, most of it is in japanese) : GEOMETRIC COMPOSITION IN THE PLAN AND ELEVATION OF BARCELONA PAVILION
this paper also has the module at 1.09 meters. maybe the 1 meter module is just a sort of simplified version of the actual stone size ..
The link didn't work...
it's a pdf and may take a while to load (?) the linky works for me ..
here's the site when i googly searched 'barcelona pavilion module':
http://ci.nii.ac.jp/naid/110006248249/en
to the right under 'preview' is the pdf
I have the book that contains the drawings for the reconstruction and the most common size for the paving is 1087mm x 1087mm.
