dear forumers, I would like to ask how would you emulate the quality of concrete, brick, and wood texture in a physical model?
offtrack of the topic, does anyone able to direct me to some online sources where I can get hold of villa dall'ava a scaled plan, section and elevation? I am currently at a place without a good resource of books to gather these information and have tried to look at internet but with little success, will appreciate it if someone could help :)
Except in very large scale models -- a detail portion of a structure, for instance -- I wouldn't expect to see rendering of material texture. Sure, brick or block might have scored or inked/penciled mortar lines -- but not the actual texture of the masonry material. Likewise, wood would indicate itself by the shapes and sizes of the units. Is this what you mean ? Some airbrushed stipple might help stone or concrete read better. . .
Dear everyone, thanks. It has been helpful :) I think laser printing might able to make an accurate texture representation. I am asking because there were few projects not long ago were putting emphasis on texture and materiality, so thought will be better to show that quality in model itself.
On the other hand, has someone got information on the villa that I have requested? thanks :)
if you google 'villa dall'ava plan' you will find many plans, elevations, and sections online - though it's hard to read the dimensions. i have a copy of s,m,l,xl (signed by rem!!!) so i'll give you a few dimensions and you should be able to print out and scale them to the correct size.
in section (finished floor to finished floor):
-basement to main level: 2.52 meters
-main level to front bedroom: 2.52 meters
-main level to rear bedroom: 3.42 meters
in plan (dimensions running parallel to the wall next to those angled columns under the front bedroom):
-centerline front wall to centerline first column: 4.80 meters
-C/L to C/L next 4 columns: 3.10 meters
-C/L last column to C/L back wall: 5.80 meters
the columns i am calling out here are the ones that get wrapped in plywood at the main level (next to the ramp)
Suggestion for physical model materiality + villa dall'ava questions

brick=dark red primer base/dark brown overspray/light brown overspray/
concrete=medium gray base/dark gray overspray/white overspray
wood= use basswood as is

dont make your model look like a rail road model.... it'll look like shit...
architecture models should be monotone anyways... expressing the forms/proportions/etc.... adding material look-a-likes just screws it all up...
