I'm coming to UCLA in the fall from Texas, and it's my first priority to set up residency so I can get in-state tuition next academic year.
I've read all the info online about gaining residency, but I still have some questions. Do I need to find work out here as a requirement for residency? Other than changing over all my records and ID, is there anything else I need to do for the change?
If anyone has any experience with this or have some advice I would love to hear it.
California is very strict on residency. It's not so much changing your IDs over, but being here one EXACT year, and not being here for school.... it's tricky. They want to see you are NOT here for school, and that you are working full time...not sure if you'll be able to swing this if you'll be an M.Arch full-time. Next year, after you've been here one year, you can petition to UCLA to get in-state residency, but it won't happen this year unless you find some loophole.
You'll have to check with the residency office at UCLA to see what they have. I moved back into state from Washington and tried to get a class as a resident at just the local community college to take a req class for an m.arch. my only saving grace was that I went to HS in california.
when i looked into residency again at some schools, each school directed me to their person who deals directly with residency. good luck!

Yeah, I wasn't expecting to get it this year, I'm more hoping to find a way to get it next fall.
Is there a working requirement on the petition for residency? I've heard that this isn't necessary.
