In the interest of not infuriating anyone, and in order to include admitted students considering other schools, I decided NOT to title this topic "UVA vs. RISD."
Anyway, please play along (I'm a woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown). Add other programs or add to my list please.
RISD:
Emphasis on design and process, free and open, wintersession, travel opportunities, the Northeast
UVA:
emphasis on sustainability, social/ecological agenda, town life
I wish this list existed 6 months ago, so I figured I'd add my thoughts. Add yours!
UMASS:
Very computer-focused. Due to association with Regional planning, seems to focus on more large scale landscapes. Not particularly well-known outside of the Northeast. Limited resources due to it being a state school.
RISD:
Fundamentally a design school. Can take classes at Brown. Program has a summer start, and winter session.
CORNELL:
Program focuses more on the practicalities of getting designs built. Extensive plant course in the first year. Some studios are conceptual. Some are more site-specific. Graduates are known to be prepared to work on day one.
GSD:
Produces grads with both technical competence and design skills. Students can be very competitive - varies year to year. Studios are very conceptual. Lots of big names, but often you are taught by their TAs.

Sorry, I'm going to re-post this in the MLA 2010 thread. Is there anyway to delete this? I told you I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown..
