I think it's a waste of money personally. 800 dollars is a lot to spend on something just so you can take notes and sketch. Buy a sketch book to take notes and sketch then scan any images you want like most everyone else. Plus converting your mac into a table will make little to no difference for 3D modeling. Just my 2 cents.

I hear you LandMass, but, as someone who's fully digitized his life, I've already justified the price and functionality. I'm solely wondering if it would be useful for grad school. If not, I'll wait until after my MArch and maybe even save up for the nicer model.

I'm sold on the tablet, just not sure on the timing.

meh, i got a bamboo tablet last year and really enjoy it... have you considered just looking into normal digital tablets that will offer you the same things as this fancy conversion but at far less than the ~ $800? there is a decent variety of sizes available... i know wacom has several different lines. from my own experience, though, the bamboo tablet has been perfect in that it hasn't cost a ton of $$$ but still enables me to get the results that i want.

Looks like an expensive toy. I would get a real computer/laptop and an ipad. Autodesk (ugh) has a great sketchbook app for ipod which would be awesome on the ipad. There is also a more beefed up version for use on computers with pen tablet input.

The problem with the bamboo is the lack of portability. I could take the ModBook on field trips, into class, whatever, and have the option of typing, writing, or sketching, or even recording video and audio. Also, the ModBook comes back from the conversion with Autodesk Sketchbook Pro installed and ready to go, plus it's a full-bore computer, unlike the iPad, so I can burn DVDs or use SketchUp.

Why don't you ask yourself this after a year in your M.Arch program? You'll know more then, and I doubt you'll say "I regret not buying it earlier."

Alright, so I got rejected from the only school I applied to. Oddly enough, this ended up making the ModBook a better choice, as I'm starting a business that more or less requires one.

I'll be posting a review of the ModBook from an architectural modeling perspective in the near future.
