Participatory Mapping Project

boots cats

Hi everyone.

I'm working on a dual master's in architecture and urban design at Kent State University's Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative. As part of my urban design thesis, I'm putting together an archive and exhibition of subjective, experience-based maps sourced from people all over the world and across disciplines. Take a look at the brief I've put together and see if the project and the exhibition interest you. I know it sounds like a short time frame [and it is], but I'm looking for lots of quick-and-dirty responses rather than necessarily polished work.

Here's a link to the brief in PDF form: http://www.personal.kent.edu/~akotting/NCE_call_for_participation.pdf

If you want to know more about the project, here's the synopsis of the research that's taken me to this point: http://www.personal.kent.edu/~akotting/new_civic_exhibitionSMALL.pdf

Thanks for reading/participating!

boots cats,

is this a theory masters in arch/planning that you are doing or is there also design work along the lines of what you wrote in the second link?

"my urban design thesis"

SERIOUSLY? What part of urban design thesis begs design work?

Urban design is about 10% pretty pictures and 90% book work.

I may take exception to the most minor points in people's posts... but I at least read them in entirety!

At least it should be.

If you're not doing lifecycle forecasts, revenue generation schemes or heavy GIS work... your urban design degree should be about as worthless as my state school afterthought degree.
