Personal Statement Question

Can you reference specific alumni by name in your personal statement? Like essentially quote them, to strengthen why you are choosing the program?

You can do anything you want, but a little of that goes a LONG way.

Don't do much, and only if it really serves you.  More than that just sounds like facile and insincere name dropping to mask a lack of your own passion and interest.

I wouldn't do that.  You can simply quote what that alum(na) said about the program if it comes across as intelligent, incisive, and even profound.  While you can weave this in, the essay is about how you and the program will mesh.  Also, it is best to be you ... and not who you think they want you to be.
