I applied with a 3.3, but I hope my high GRE scores, coupled with other parts of the application will outweigh that blemish. Then again, it's MIT - I would be blindly arrogant to assume a good chance (any chance?) of admission.
I don't understand why MIT would send this sort of email at this point.
In other news, as a student (albeit undergraduate) at the Princeton SoA, I was emailed a copy of the school calendar and that took out the speculation about when decisions will be made. There is an all-day M.Arch admissions meeting on Feb 26th and then the final, final M.Arch admissions meeting is on March 10th 2010. Those are the days I'll be praying to the gods I don't believe in. Just kidding.
Most of the fine art was from High School, actually.
Currently I'm in an Arch Certf. program abroad, so I included my last 2 studio projects, which are all hand-drawn.
Then I did a bunch of the Making + Meaning stuff I had.
I don't know if I feel particularly confident or not.
I think the port could come over well... I did not cram in a lot of stuff like some others did, with 5 pics a page...
When I applied to undergrad I had a perfect Verbal SAT, so I felt confident that people would think I'm smart. My GREs turned out dismally, so now I feel like I'm just unexceptional. So I really have no clue... could get rejected from all 3 schools, or get a full ride because of my weird history of pre-med turned architect.
Did anyone else get the "Checking on Address Information" e-mail from WashU? Is it irrational of me to hope they are checking on my address so they send the truckload of money to the right place after I receive my acceptance? I like that idea much better than they want to send my "thanks for playing" package to the correct address...
Anyone else apply to CUNY? I know they have all my stuff but I have received no confirmation or anything from them...just wondering if this is typical.
strangely enough, i haven't received any indication that any school i applied to has even looked at my portfolio yet. since decisions come in march, i would have thought they would have started by now...
It is strange isnt it? I know I am complete some places from the status websites or emails. But with CUNY I really dont know...even though I know they should have all my stuff.
atty: i also applied to City College and received an email to say they were missing a piece of my application. My conclusion would be that if you haven't heard anything, they more than likely have everything. That said, you could also email or call - they are pretty helpful. hope that helps!
Here's a question I've been thinking about lately, since we're still waiting to hear back... How do we decide which school to go to, should we get into 2 or more of our top choices?
My mom said to pick the cheapest, but I was leaning towards spending money on plane tickets to open houses and see how I feel about the schools after seeing them firsthand.
But then again, maybe I'll only get into the 1 school and the decision will be made for me.
last year, my friend actually got admissions from 2 schools that he really wanted to go to.
He sent acceptance letter to both schools and went to both of their open house.
He wasted money on one school
but if you are really not sure which one to go to
i think it would be good to attend both open houses.
I think it is best to go check the schools out in person. I remember with law schools I was all set to go to one of my choices...then went to the open house and totally hated it.
I think my worst nightmare would be getting into every single school I applied to. I would have no way of narrowing down schools to visit, it was hard enough making my list of schools to apply to... I'm not worried about that happening though. But if it does I'm screwed (in a good way?)
Has anyone done the FAFSA yet? I saw a lot of schools want them done by last week, way before they even start looking at our applications. I haven't even filed my taxes yet!
lidandan, FAFSA to a certain extent is a first come, first served system, most advisors recommend that you fill out your FAFSA the first week it is available (Jan 1 - Jan 7). You do not need to have your filing information for the year you are applying, just an estimate that you can adjust after you file your taxes. You should fill it out as soon as possible, as some schools with aid deadlines will not give you any aid (merit or otherwise) without FAFSA info.
1. i think that would be far from your "worst nightmare" - give me a break!
2. you don't have to have filed taxes yet to fill out your fafsa. as long as you have all the forms you need, and have gotten you PIN #, it should take you less than an hour to complete. i would get that done ASAP if i were you before they allocate all the money
Lidandan_ Do the FAFSA as soon as possible... Just estimate. And then when you file your taxes, you can go back into their form and revise your income information, and then re-send.
Is anyone a NY State resident, who is applying to NY schools, and will be applying for the NY "TAP" (state assistance) program?
I wanted to get this filled out, but it asks what school you will be attending... It's obvious I don't know the answer to that yet... so I've refrained from completing their app.
Not getting into any schools wouldn't be a problem for me, as I knew exactly what I would do instead. I was expecting the "puh lease" reaction though since I'm being dramatic about it.
I think all this waiting for decisions is getting to me
I'm an international applicant. I thought that I have to do and send the financial statement document for the university only in case they accept me. I didn't know I have to write it earlier ( I'm not applying to any scholarships and financial aid). Is that OK?
Well, Univ. of Cinci undergrad students got their acceptance/rejections today for the UC grad program, and I received good news! That's a weight off the ol' shoulders.
I wonder if you could put the school in new york you'd like to attend and then change it later if necessary. It could be a month or two before you know for sure where you are going or what you are doing.
Also, I'm curious... is anyone reapplying from last year?
I only applied to one school last time and didn't hear from them until the very end of April and it was a rejection (it was obvious by then anyway). Just wondering if anyone else is trying again.
The AA
The Bartlett, UCL

U of C Denver
i'm just relieved I don't have to experience anymore intense introspective nightmares where I find myself imagining what my life will entail next year if I were rejected from everywhere.
Jesus...so I have contacted two of my schools recently to make sure my applications were complete and good thing I did. Both thought they were missing things but in reality weren't. On another note one school told me not to worry because they haven't sent the applications to admissions yet...
About a month ago I checked every single school I applied to and they were almost all missing one or more recommendation letters, and all from different professors.
In fact, Minnesota hadn't received any of my letters at all and the director of admissions asked for them to be emailed to him directly.
I also noticed that a lot more schools are requiring electronic recommendation letters, so if you have professors that refuse to do those (like one of mine) things can get really messy.
It seems like a lot gets lost between the graduate colleges of the universities and the architecture departments. At least all my portfolios got there in time...
Some good news- I've just gotten a really unexpected acceptance email from the AA! My internal alarm was set to go off only in three more weeks, so this was a lovely surprise. It's the only non-US graduate program that I'd applied to, and I'm just tickled that I was accepted into their post-professional DRL program with my B.A. in Architecture. They will be considering my bursary ($$) application in March.
You guys are right - it does take some pressure off to know that you're at least going somewhere! If anyone has a first or secondhand idea of what the DRL program is like, please let me know; I've heard good things, but also some cautionary tales. I hope you get in, turtle. Good luck all!
wow! that seems like something graf would shy away from..maybe he's getting edgier :). he's awesome, wrote a rec or two for me, hope it helps. also one of the funniest guys I've met.
2010 M.Arch applicants, commiserate here!
Did MIT applicants all have high GPAs? Mine is only 3.3ish =.=
I applied with a 3.3, but I hope my high GRE scores, coupled with other parts of the application will outweigh that blemish. Then again, it's MIT - I would be blindly arrogant to assume a good chance (any chance?) of admission.
I had a 3.79
I don't understand why MIT would send this sort of email at this point.

Thanks for nothing Judy!
Pre-Med undergrad, but dabbled in fine arts.
40 page port.

Nice outlook on admissions... rejection or full ride. What happened to just being admitted?
lol... i'm an all-or-nothing kinda person, couldn't ya tell? (and i'm not really expecting a full ride. just hoping for one.)

i also got the wash u email... i'll cross my fingers for the truckload of money as well, 'cause there's no way i can afford the school without it.
(crossing my fingers that i'm accepted, of course)
atty: i also applied to City College and received an email to say they were missing a piece of my application. My conclusion would be that if you haven't heard anything, they more than likely have everything. That said, you could also email or call - they are pretty helpful. hope that helps!

Is the TAP not like the FAFSA, where you just enter every school you applied to?
I'm an international applicant. I thought that I have to do and send the financial statement document for the university only in case they accept me. I didn't know I have to write it earlier ( I'm not applying to any scholarships and financial aid). Is that OK?

congrats JK3HL!
WooHoo...Congrast
congrats jk3hl! it's nice to know you're going to go somewhere for grad school, isn't it. :)
congrats. great program I've heard
lidandan
It's similar... although FAFSA asks for the school(s) you want your info to be forwarded to.
While TAP asks for the school you will be "attending".
I suppose it's just semantics.
I wonder if you could put the school in new york you'd like to attend and then change it later if necessary. It could be a month or two before you know for sure where you are going or what you are doing.

I'm reapplying from 2 years ago. this will be my last try, if I dont get in I'm going to culinary school.
I went to Ohio State undergrad...
I've been accepted to London Met. (my #3)
Still waiting to hear back from everywhere else:
The AA
The Bartlett, UCL

U of C Denver
i'm just relieved I don't have to experience anymore intense introspective nightmares where I find myself imagining what my life will entail next year if I were rejected from everywhere.
GL everyone.
What made you choose so many UK schools. I'm curious because I was there this summer. Have you visited any?
congrats turtle! I'm crossing my fingers as well for that first acceptance to lift some weight off myself.
I went to knowlton as an undergraduate, were you there? was the AA a kipnis-influence?
Jesus...so I have contacted two of my schools recently to make sure my applications were complete and good thing I did. Both thought they were missing things but in reality weren't. On another note one school told me not to worry because they haven't sent the applications to admissions yet...
Atty-
Which school hasn't sent the applications to admissions? That is crazy!
How do Business and Law schools have their act together with sending out admissions decisions in a timely manner but Arch schools don't?
Atty what school was this?
CUNY

great work! I applied to the MArch Housing and Urbanism program at the AA. here's to hoping...
Villian - it was more of a Graf influence than a Kipnis one.
wow! that seems like something graf would shy away from..maybe he's getting edgier :). he's awesome, wrote a rec or two for me, hope it helps. also one of the funniest guys I've met.
