LandMass.
I went to Pratt as B.arch and now I work in Pratt. But they are terrible on the keeping things organized. Good Luck

LandMass - didn't get that email, but have now gotten 3 separate pieces of correspondence, each weeks apart, saying my app is complete. They do not seem to be the most organized of the admissions departments. I would email or call them.

Yeah,

okok, you feel like taking a walk the admissions office for me? I kid I kid.

This is a bit worrisome. I'm not sure if these materials are floating around PRATT or if they are truly lost in which case I am a bit screwed.

Also, I was under the impression that the GRE was not mandatory fir MARCh applicants.

congrats to all those accepted at Yale and WashU! Just wondering if anyone has been accepted to UMich since this past Friday when the mass email acceptances went out.

pepto- I am fairly certain it was the 2-year masters track. I also think they JUST started sending out letters, and they do it by postal mail. So it might take a while.

This wait is really turning into an emotional roller coaster for me...

I wanted to get some thoughts from you guys. If you only got in to your safety school, would you enroll? Or would you apply again next fall?

I realize there are many people who are still waiting on news, and do not mean to be insensitive. It's just that I know I'll be an emotional train wreck once the rejections start coming in. I guess I'm pretty attached to some of these schools, and am just trying to figure out how I can move on/what to do in the aftermath.

Hi everyone, first of all congrats for these awesome acceptances. I'm too a long time lurker and I also share the same nightmare of waiting decisions.

I applied to school’s 3 year M.Arch first professional degrees. Am I being too pessimistic by thinking that I lost my chance for MIT after these phone notifications?

At the beginning of this year I was thinking that the preparation process for the admission with all the exams, portfolios etc was the hardest part but now –while turning a paranoid & obsessive person : ) - I completely changed my mind…

Anyway I hope we all get good news soon!

pandaeyes, that's def a legit consideration. I only applied to schools that I would go to in a heartbeat if I got in, reasoning that I wouldn't wanna go into debt for somewhere that I wasn't 100% in love with, not to mention spending 3-1/2 years there.

so is your safety just an answer for the next 3 years, or is it somewhere you legitimately admire and consider a great architecture program?

seems like too few 2010 yale acceptances compared to last year. i have a feeling there is going to be another batch within the next couple days.

also, has anyone heard from the university of washington (seattle)?
seems like they should have notified via phone last week, but i haven't seen any posts on gradcafe or here.

LandMass, I got an email confirmed the application is completed back in Jan, and they just said next step is to wait for decision. They also mailed a ID for reference not long after I submitted the online application. Give them a call ASAP...

ADavin, are you going to the open house of WUSTL too?? I am most likely, will see you and Kap if then! I am in MArch 3, how about you guys?

Congrats to those who got offers and sure good news are on the way for those who are still waiting. :)

Hey LandMass - did you apply to Pratt, GSD, and GSAPP only? because that's what I did too...

I just got an email yesterday (!) that my Pratt application was complete and their facebook page says that they're making decisions this week, so looks like everything's moving really fast. Give them a call and/or an email!

pandaeyes, I think that is a very good question that you would def. have to consider. For me my safety school is an instate school that is right down the road from where I live and from where all my friends from undergrad still leave. I not as thrilled about the program and the curriculum. But my thoughts are also that I would really be able to push myself and still study what my interests are.

What is has going is the location and the cost. Its also a school that I have no doubt that I would be able to do really well and succeed in.

If your safety school has a lot of positive aspects for you and you think you could be there for the next couple years then I would say go for it. If not, and it is not at all where you want to be then I would give it some serious thought before you make that commitment.

The other thing to consider if you did wait another year would be what are you going to do in the mean time. Job? improving skills? etc...?

congrats everyone got into Yale and WUSTL, starting the week great!

I'm still waiting... altho Yale hasn't sent me anything..
does that mean I'm rejected? or will they do 2nd round of admission?
I see about 20 people getting in from North America region.
I'm from Univ of Toronto, but my hometown (and current city) is Seoul, Korea. Would int'l students get notified a bit later? (I dont see any accepted int'l students on gradcafe, asian forum thing, and here...)

archist.brett, you must remember that not everyone frequents the sites you listed. 20 seems like a fair number of reports. the rest are perhaps just not as internet-savvy or else will report later.

i don't see why international students would get notified later. that would make sense if it was postal, but apparently a bulk email was sent out, and there doesn't seem to be a good reason to send out a bulk email to international applicants later. so my guess is that the rest of the yale applicants have been rejected.

also, archist.brett, how do you know that all 20 of these ppl are from NA? just wondering

It will be interesting to see how many people on this board end up comprising various classes - i.e., what percentage of students entering Yale in the fall have had some contact with this discussion? If people actually care it might be interesting to put some number together later on.... then again, once we are all in who will be interested? I know I am not nerd enough even for that...

do most people on here plan on receiving significant aid packages to these super-expensive schools, such as yale and WUSTL, or is going 100K+ seem worth it for most? i mean, i understand how it's an investment, but for what you pay for some of these schools, it seems like you could hire your own team of personal architects to train you. sorry, but i find this amusing.

z.g.a.

got into Umich 3g last week (maybe 2g, the decision is going to the dean), and Washington U with adv standing!

Still waiting on Penn and MIT...

When do we hear about financial aid?

jizzy, the 20 is just a guess from seeing gradcafe cuz u either see A for american, U for int'l educated in america, and I for int'l... and also some of my friends/people met online have been admitted. so, i just know about 20 people were admitted for sure. I assume Yale accepts about 60 per yr?? and I see, on gradcafe, people were accepted on different days thruout the week.

I still cross my finger, knock on wood for any good news :)

No phone call from MIT, no email from Yale, no letter from WUSTL ... FML! I think the MIT and Yale ships may have sailed without me, but am hopeful that the WUSTL letter is still on the way. I'm so glad that I've already been admitted to Austin (one of my top choices!), or I'd really be a wreck right now.

In any case, congrats to all who have gotten good news today! It's been a quiet and anxious day on my end -- the 2 hours I'm about to spend at the climbing gym with no phone or internet are going to be amazing.

Has there been any change?

@ archist.brett - I have yet to hear from Yale as well and Im an intl applicant too. Like everyone else who has applied to Yale, and didnt get an email last night, I have my doubts and fears too. We could be notified later (hopefully!) or like what jizzy said, already rejected.

Being able to face up to failure is part of the game. There's gonna be a winner and a loser. I think what's more important is to persevere, and not lose confidence in our own abilities. It's not unlike a design competition, if you think about it.

To all those who have yet to get into any schs, chins up and keep the faith. After all, the subject of this discussion says, 2010 applicants
* commiserate* here.

GL to all ! : )

aveclaudenum, I find your comment very amusing. MAYBE you could "hire a team of personal architects to train you", but that would cost some real dough (Architects bill at $100+ an hour) if they were any good. Also, you wouldn't have the benefit of learning from your peers which is a huge part of architecture school, as well, as being immersed in the university environment for several years.

archhk and kap:

Yes, I was admitted MArch3 -

Before I commit to the open house I still need to wait to hear from GSD, and MIT (though I'm not holding my breath for MIT), whose open houses are on the same dates (MIT on the 8th, GSD on the 9th)... otherwise I certainly think I will go. We should definitely meet up!

Hey Sixtrain, Mugged -

Thanks for the response. There are some interesting things happening at my safety school, but just not as cutting edge as at my top choices. My goal is to practice architecture internationally, but I want to avoid the boring corporate stuff. Hence, my main concerns are that my safety school might not foster that level of experimentation or may be too regionally focused to offer international exposure. That's why I'm a little on the fence. I guess I just need to dig in to this question more when it comes time for open houses...

Mar 8, 10 10:33 pm  ·

ahh, sorry to hear that all those open houses are on the same date Adavin! i checked the other schools i applied to to see if there were any conflicts, but they haven't posted their accepted student open house dates yet and i haven't heard anything either, so... st louis it is then!

m2p, i am also surprised that uni washington in seattle hasn't let people know yet about their status. it was one of my top choices..

as for aveclaudenum, i'm juggling with the high cost of wash u but have only heard back from one other school... there's no harm in going to the open house and waiting to hear back from financial aid (which hasn't gone out yet). i've applied to a LARGE variety of schools which fluctuate dramatically in terms of costs. it's all about balancing the different factors and what i want to get out of my education... some might say the current recession justifies trying to go to school as cheaply as possible, but to others it places more of an emphasis on getting the degree that gives you access to the most resources... it's too hard to quantify all of the intangibles and completely eliminate wash u right now, so why not explore the possibility for the time being?

@PandaEyes. I wanted to respond to your earlier question about only being accepted into a safety school. While I am waiting to hear from my other schools (I've been accepted to one and waiting on a few more) I always had this biased point of view where I told myself if I only got accepted into one program that I would plan on taking a summer studio-i live in the bay area so it would be berkeley's inArch for me- to enhance my portfolio and from there i would give it another go around in hopes that more schools would accept me as i would have a better applications package. The hope being I would have a larger selection to choose from and not force myself into a decision solely because I have nothing else to do.

obviously there are other concerns beyond a 'wanting to go to a top tier program' that could influence your decision whether or not to apply again (i.e. financial, family, etc.)

the viewpoint that i have is that ultimately it is my money that i am spending on my own education, therefore if i at all feel uneasy going into the program it is not necessarily something i want to do.

i hope this helps you, and if it didn't sorry for the ramble (i was excited to see someone else is thinking about this, i worry myself with alternatives everyday...basically it's nice to know i'm not alone)

Grats to all of you future Yale and WUSTL folk! Kinda makes me wish I had more time to shoot out more apps.

It's also comforting that I'm not the only one digging through gradcafe notification dates from last year to self speculate on when I might be hearing from the rest of my schools this year! I thought it would die down once I got accepted to UT Austin, but I'm still checking my email almost bi-hourly. I'm just hoping for UCLA and Berkeley notifications this week to ease some nerves... anyone want to join in on speculating when they will notify?!

I was pretty intimidated by the portfolios on here a couple of months ago, maybe because I'm my own worst critic, or because I don't have an academic arch background, or because I'm lazy, I hadn't put my portfolio on issuu yet, but I guess what better to do while playing the waiting game...
http://issuu.com/jgaumer/docs/jg2010marchportfolio

On the just getting into a safety school topic, I was thinking about this way too much a week ago when I had only been accepted to CCA (my safety). It seems to me, that it really depends on what you have to do for the next year. If you have a good job you can continue on with, and take time off to do a summer studio, it might be best to bust your ass for the next round of apps. If your life has been designed around going to grad school for the past year and you have no aim otherwise, it might be best to take the safety. I've got a lot more to say about this, but I'll wait until the conversation continues rather than adding to this wall of text.

Here's to reading about more awesome acceptances on here this week, and cheers to those who already have them!

@ babybokchoy - does your page show that all documents have been received? My screen says that the GRE score has yet to reach the school. I am not sure if I should be worried about it and am wondering if there are any others out there caught in the same situation, even for those who have been accepted to the program.

I emailed the admissions office, and they said that they will require the official scores only when I have been officially accepted. I am not too sure how I should interpret this now....

And it sure does seem weird that I am still worrying about completeness of my app when others are pondering over which offer to accept !

@Pythagoras: Well, I wouldn't read too much into this, but I noticed that my GRE score report status was incomplete back in January, even though I had ETS send an official score report way back in October. So I immediately sent another score report via ETS, and contacted Yale, and they updated my status a few weeks later, mid February. So my page has had a complete status since then. However, I think there are problems with the system sometimes when you take your GRE too early and list schools you have not registered with on your score report.

But since you emailed their office and they said they only need the official scores when you get in, you should worry less!

archist.brett and Pythagoras -

I haven't heard anything from Yale yet either and I am an international applicant too.... don't really know if this is saying much though but yale tends to have a class of 50 - 60 people? so lets say they'll give out 60-70 acceptances?

I think they'll be a second round. I am hopeful

but yes - i do think jizzy has a point - since they notify by email - it doesn't actually make sense that they would make the distinction between domestic and international....

sigh.

I m not sure if it's self delusional to think that there will be a second batch. Anyhow, I think we should remain optimistic and not rule ourselves out prematurely. Afterall, Yale could have a certain system (based on ranking of students/first name/reference number etc) of sending out acceptance letters, and our turns may be just round the corner !

It would be great if someone on this forum could help shed some light on how acceptance letters are sent out.

praxis99 - all da best. hope you get that dream letter/email soon !
