seriously! i feel all of you... the impatience of not hearing back from any schools AT ALL, the feeling that admissions people probably hate us by now cus we've collectively pestered them way too many times, the applying from overseas.. well, just the application process in general ...
on a slightly brighter note, its nice to see this commiseration process pick up... gl everyone! (as we've all said nervously many times by now...)
praxis99: yeah, MIT and Penn have been options for a while. they just fell through the cracks last minute. And yeah, applying to Princeton is a craps shoot, but meh, if they're still in business we might as well try shopping there.
So now i have confirmed by two friends of mine who got into Columbia and Yale respectively last year. Columbia hit on 14th, Yale on the 15th.
About the GRE: don't even get me started. Several of my required documents: GRE, transcripts.. etc. were selectively shown as "not rec" by the schools way past the deadlines. and then, randomly, they started popping as "rec" with receipt dates PRIOR to the deadlines. so..who knows what goes on there. lol.
anyhow. very little left. hopefully everyone in this thread gets their yes, and who knows, maybe be classmates. (what a soap opera end to my post)
UCLA doesn't seem to update their application status site accurately. Mine also says they are missing many things, but I got an email a while ago that said they have recieved everything and my application is complete.
I think there is a disconnect between the arch department and the graduate division. Seems to be the case with many schools
lidandan,
I did call them last week since the admission director suddenly emailed me to ask for TOEFL. My application was completed by Jan 15. Now, it is "missing scores" with application status "complete". HA.
The girl in the office said reviews were done and everything is almost set to go. So, she told me there is no need to do anything in the moment until I get the result.
Just had UH update their website saying they are missing part of my application... including my portfolio which was confirmed delivered by USPS on Dec. 10. Sucks but at least it's some news.
Still awaiting any updates from NC State, Georgia Tech, Clemson, or UNC Charlotte.
I talked to the rep at Sam Fox today b/c one of my transcripts was listed online as being from the wrong school (BU instead of BC) seemed like a suitable reason to gently call and pester about any 'update'.
Very politely: "It's all set, we have everything we need and your transcript is correct, our mistake. Hopefully you'll be hearing from us soon!"
Me too!
My ruminating mind has found so many ways to interpret that beyond the fairly obvious lack of actual meaning....
Anyone know how the app process at the Ivies (particularly HYPC) and MIT goes? Specifically, what would they be doing in these final weeks?
Are they now "cherry-picking", as jizzy suggested, from a smaller group that have avoided a preliminary, much larger round of rejections? Or are they just continuing with the same process as they did in Jan/Feb, by slapping an "okay" or "not okay" on each app for the first time without having yet narrowed down the candidate list? Authoritative sources would be welcome.
Hi everyone! I'm a long-time lurker, first-time poster. Had been resisting the siren song of this thread since January but found my way back again yesterday after getting a delightful email from UT Austin and wondering what other schools people have heard from so far. I wasn't expecting to hear anything for a week or two, so I'm just really glad it was good news.
Congratulations to all of you who have been accepted anywhere so far, and good luck waiting through the rest!
I'm still waiting to hear back from 8 schools (MIT, Yale, Berkeley, WUSTL, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico and Hawaii), and really don't know what to expect. I was pretty afraid I would only get into NM and Hawaii, so I'm just happy to know that I'll have at least one non-back-up to choose from for the fall.
hi all
i have questions for those who applied and already heard from UT Austin.
What option did you guys apply for?
After checking grad cafe, UT Austin sends decisions via e-mail or post it on the website. which website?
Does EID website show admission decision?
congrats kestrel! are you going to the open house?
stasis: I applied for the M.Arch I program, no advanced standing or anything like that. Dunno about a website. EID only listed completeness for me (still) and I got my acceptance through e-mail a couple days ago.
Okay fellow archinectors, i need to know if I'm reading into this too deeply.
So, I got an email from UCLA today saying that they didn't have my mailing address or my permanent address. (wtf! don't ask me how that is even possible) And they asked me to send BOTH and specify which is which.
So, I'm thinking, if they are going to just send me a rejection letter they wouldn't give a shit what my permanent address is...but if they are planning on sending me TUITION BILLS in the future...then they would want my permanent address.
reading too deep? still no update to website status...
I would interpret it the same way. Somewhere on the website it even states that they are not obligated to respond to you by any specific date, and a lack of response is not to be assumed as a favorable one. With that in mind, as well as the fact that they do have your email information, inquiring about your physical address, temporary or permanent, seems unnecessary if they planned to reject you. Good luck!
Was it the architecture department or the graduate college/office? If it was the latter you're probably reading too deeply. If it's the architecture department then I would assume the same as you... that if they were going to reject you then what's the point in asking.
Up until the day I got accepted to ASU a few weeks ago it said my application was still missing two letters of rec. They don't seem to update the websites very accurately or quickly for any school.
^ I would've thought the main graduate college/office would handle most of the usual inquiries to applicants, including inquiries regarding tuition bills. The architecture department's business is architecture.
well architecture departments have admissions offices too, which may request information from some applicants. the graduate college isn't the one reviewing the applications they just process them and send them over.
i only asked because the arch department may need the addresses for one of those letters from the dean or whatever. the graduate admissions office would need it due to an incomplete application.
@archdeceiver: "Anyone know how the app process at the Ivies (particularly HYPC) and MIT goes? Specifically, what would they be doing in these final weeks? Are they now "cherry-picking", as jizzy suggested?"
Oy thanks for the reference mate, i coined that term way back then you know
as far as i know, the schools you listed (at least HY&P) pretty much notify all of their accepted students at once, no cherry-picking. they sort all applications into a first round of acceptances, a wait-list, and a group that are declined, and tend to notify in that order. there will be a slightly greater number of acceptances than there are available openings, since they know they probably won't get all the students they invite. if they get drastically fewer acceptances than they anticipated, they'll accept students from the wait list.
at princeton at least, the decisions have already been made by the architecture school - the faculty had their big admissions meeting last friday. now the accepted applications are probably being processed by the office of the graduate school and the financial aid office for a final 'ok.' at a guess, i think people could start expecting to hear from next wednesday-friday, based on previous year's experience and on the fact that princeton's spring break is the week after next.
good luck guys!
just a few more weeks of *refresh archinect* *refresh gmail* *check spam* *refresh gradcafe* *log out & back in to applications* *lather* *rinse* *repeat*
Europe's 5-6 hours ahead, so maybe they MIT was calling before the end of the day? Hopefully us kids in the states will be getting calls in the afternoon...
Hirano, I'm in Singapore right now. He called my California-listed number and got frightened by the potential roaming charges to Asia, I think, which is why he hung up so quickly?! :P He also apologized after realizing he called at my midnight. Poor man, he's like the most welcome telemarketer ever. Oh and, apparently funding offers will come with the official letter through post.
praxis and jive, it was so waaaay ahead of my timeline (expected to get anxious only next week) that I blew my celebration plans. I just sat for awhile letting the news slowly permeate my dumb ol' brain, before remembering I had loved ones to inform. Hope you guys did better!
It's a 617 number, so keep an eye out! I almost chose not to pick up: roaming charges + not expecting notifications so early + thinking it was some friend forgetting to dial internationally to wish me happy birthday.
NOW I'm blabbering here too, but the point is this: good luck all! We didn't suffer through 2009 for nothing!
maybe soon we could do those traditional lists of schools, in-out, and the gre/gpa garbage. i would start but i am lazy right now.
Congrats to everyone who got into MIT though! Since it's friday, if I received that call i would just go home now and party by myself. But I didn't apply to MIT so no chance of that happening.
No, I dont think your chances are shot yet. None of my friends have heard from them yet. If you don't hear during the first wave from any school I wouldn't worry, not until they send the actual rejection letter.
Stasis: I have the exact same story as sixtrain -- applied for M. Arch I, no advance standing, non-architecture background, got notification through email on 3/3 (a birthday present only 2 days late!), and the EID website doesn't seem to say anything different.
sixtrain: Unfortunately I can't go to the open house. Have stuff at work that day I can't get out of. If it were stuff my bosses were in charge of, I could talk my way out of it, but it is stuff I have to do under a contract with the state Department of Health, so no such luck! I have a friend across the country who is still waiting to hear about law school at Austin, so we're hoping to rendezvous in Austin in April if she gets a yes.
People are hearing from MIT!!??!!! Aaaahhhh! I have been asleep all morning, but my phone shows no signs of attempted contact. Please tell me that everyone who has heard applied for M. Arch II? Please...???
I applied to UT Austin, advanced standing, and I haven't heard anything yet. It makes sense that advanced standing would take longer to review because every undergraduate program is different...
oyyyy... I just got a call from UVA requesting more information about a past offense on my criminal record. I already had given full disclosure on the application, they just wanted to know more details. The offense happened in high school (5yrs ago) and I felt like I handled the situation and myself very professionally on the phone.
Should I be worried? I don't know whether to take it as a good of bad sign. I might be reading too much into this but I feel like they must be somewhat interested if they want to know more.
Thoughts?
Oh and Congrats to all the MIT acceptances! Im sure you all deserve it.
I'm sure plenty of people have criminal records... but I am morbidly curious as to what yours is ;)
I wouldn't be worried, they probably just want to make sure since all places ask for that information for background checks, etc. They probably wouldn't bother if they were going to reject you anyway, like we were discussing above. But you won't know for sure until you actually get the letter.
2010 M.Arch applicants, commiserate here!
seriously! i feel all of you... the impatience of not hearing back from any schools AT ALL, the feeling that admissions people probably hate us by now cus we've collectively pestered them way too many times, the applying from overseas.. well, just the application process in general ...

Call from MIT
I got a call at 00:13.
Weren't able to receive it.
Since it was an international call,
wondered if it was smthng about admission.
Saw praxis99's post.
Guessed it was MIT.
Called back the missing call.
There it was Young-ho Chang.
Thank you, MIT
Thank you, Young-ho Chang
