Andimdone: I can sympathize with your hatred for weekends nowadays, but to me a day off will always be a day off :)
jizzy: schools typically dole out all their acceptances, then they give the rejections as their last move. and I wouldn't say there's been many acceptances yet. of the dozen schools I've applied to, only caught wind of one of them notifying a handful of people so far.
where did you apply, villain?
The ivies notify later, even though they have the most expensive application fee. hm... in retrospect I spent a LOT of money applying to schools. All for a sheet of paper in the mail.
I listed them out on the last page.. i'm too lazy to write them all out again. the only school I've applied to that people have heard from is UT, with just a handful of people getting emails from them.
agreed, applications were way too expensive and time consuming. hopefully it's worth it in the end.
oh i just found them. that's a lot of schools; i only applied to 8. When people ask which schools I say I can't remember because it takes a lot of brain power to list them all.
I haven't heard from Michigan yet either. I do know that this week is their spring/winter break though, so I guess there is a chance we might not hear till next week if no one is in the admissions offices working.
I fully expect to be "renounced" from all the schools I've applied to. I'm going for an M.Arch I.
Not sure what my back up plan is....I used to do Interior Design...but all the ID jobs in Houston tend to be on the corporate side, which I did for 3+ years. I'm not interested in doing that again. Maybe I'll move to NYC, wait tables and hustle....or maybe I'll consider becoming a Rap Star too :)
I too fully expected to be "dinged" by all of my schools. Not sure what the back up plan is. Tired of being a lawyer so I need to figure that out soon!
I wish the "shunning" from schools would come at the same time as waitlistings & acceptances. last year I only applied to one school and didn't get my rejection letter or any word from them until the very end of april. My assumption was they didn't notify anyone of a waitlist, they just waited an extra two months to send out one sheet of paper for a rejection after they had filled all the spots.
Not knowing anything is worse than a prompt rejection. The latter allows you to move on sooner.
I totally agree. I think the worst case scenario would be getting waitlisted and having to wait yet another month until you actually get the rejection letter. What are the chances of getting off the waitlist? I suppose it depends on each school, but from what I've been reading the GSD didn't accept anyone off their waitlist last year.
Tired of waiting!! Being patient is easier said than done!
Before Hirano posted that I didn't even think of the whole spring break thing. So what are people's feels? Do admissions offices have off over spring break too? Do they try and send out decisions before they leave?
The fact that spring break didn't even occur to me makes me feel old/excited at the prospect of having "breaks" again!
Wow, well first school I've been accepted to was my backup, backup plan...
Embry-Riddle Masters of Aerospace Engineering
Went for a visit and had a great interview, mechanical/aerospace engineering was my 2nd choice going into undergrad and I've always been interested in lunar habitation. We'll see what happens, hoping to hear from Clemson and Va Tech first for MArch.
It was pointed out to me that some schools in the East may be behind schedule due to closures related to the ridiculous amount of snow that hit this winter. I don't have any actual supporting documentation for that, but it's something to think about if the acceptances/refusals don't start coming in at the same time as they did for the 2009 class.
Not that anyone here has queried the GradCafe results page and knows that it's only 6 days until the first documented 2009 acceptance via email at his top school. (9 days for mail, 4 days til the first shunning, via email). Just sayin'
Good point, Smile... although most schools up here only closed for one day (although this waiting feels like an eternity, so even an extra day feels like a lot).
Sounds like you've analyzed Grad Cafe as much as I have. Last year most acceptances from top schools started on the 12th and 13th, and with the 13th as a Saturday this year I'm hoping that they'll happen on the 11th and 12th. Hopeful thinking, perhaps? Rejections tend to be a bit after acceptances (according to my unscientific analysis).
Before things get too crazy on here, also want to say best of luck to all and good luck with the wait!
LITS4FormZ if you're serious about lunar habitation you may want to check out the Masters of Space Architecture program at Univeristy of Houston. You may even be able to still apply to it for this year if you call them.
Atty, when I went back the breaks were great. Spring semester seemed to have a day of every other week.
I applied to the M.Arch I program (I'll have a BS in Architecture in May from U. Illinois Urbana-Champaign)... If by 'complete' you meant when my application was complete, all of my materials were in by january 13th. They did take a couple of days to update the status on the Alvin system though
by the way, if you're checking your status on that system, it may be doing you a disservice... my status still reads "complete ready for review" even after today's call.

to add to the excitement and dread....
just found out i was accepted to ucla! (for m.arch i)
(for those of you who applied...i haven't gotten an official letter in the mail or anything...only checked the "application decision" site on the ucla graduate school website...my "letter" was there)
best of luck to everyone!
I emailed with them because my status said something was missing (even though it wasnt) and they told me I was going to the the committee...which was about a week ago. I am not feeling very good about this on.....
I emailed with them because my status said something was missing (even though it wasnt) and they told me I was going to the the committee...which was about a week ago. I am not feeling very good about this on.....
Wow, congratulation! And that's really the excitement and dread.
I also applied to MArchI, and I checked my "application decision" but nothing appears...
Actually, I received the mail from UCLA last year, which said "maybe" "you are eligible for the one-year Master of Architecture II (M. Arch II) program, and our faculty will review you for this program, because you would be over-qualified for the M. Arch I." (I have 4year Bachelor degree in Architecture in Japan and they wanted to know whether it isconsidered a professional degree in Japan, allowing me to work as a professional architect).
I immediately responded to the mail that I want to pursue MArchII if it's possible, however I haven't received any mails from UCLA and I don't know whether my application is reviewed as a MArchI app, or MArchII app....
EdgewoodAnimal - I did look into their program and it's certainly one of a kind. I also applied to Houston's MArch program so maybe I could end up there down the road. The reason I applied to Embry-Riddle in case I choose to pursue a career outside architecture, which unfortunately may come to fruition soon.
Not sure if this is applicable to anyone here except me, but I received an email from UNC-C saying they are finished reviewing the applications, and in a week or so the graduate college should have the decisions posted.
This is a week later than they were finished last year. I hope it isn't an indication of the other schools all notifying later.
lid- I think an earlier poster nailed it when they mentioned the factor of the east coast snow storms this winter. got to imagine that pushed everything back a few days or so.
simply- wow, congrats! based on your post I think I checked my ucla status online 49 times last night.
this is weird: on grad cafe there's a posting for an email acceptance from UT for M.Arch 1. In the notes they say they received a B.arch from ASU. Even if ASU had a B.Arch program (which it appears they do not) he wouldn't even be eligible for the M.Arch professional degree (would have to pursue post-prof M.arch 2). Is there a chance people are just posting whatever they want up there?
there's a huge chance of that because you can pretty much post whatever you want. Or, that poster is just confused. More likely that he has a BS Arch or similar.
It's also really annoying when people will use "other" and then post dumb stuff in the comments like "Has anyone heard yet blah blah blah"
It really reduces the accuracy of the site.
Maybe you should call Parsons to ask them to look into it. I called them today. Just found out my portfolio and rec letters are all missing. But, they have transcripts. I dropped all of them together in person before feb 1st. Now, they said they will look into it.
I had actually emailed/called them last month about missing items. I got an email from them mid-February saying I was complete and under review....that is why I am afraid silence may mean a big no thank you is on its way...sigh....
i wonder if most schools have narrowed down their candidate list and are cherry-picking from that now. i can probably deduce whether or not i have been rejected based on that and additional sources i have
that sounds about right. it might also explain why the acceptances / dismissals are so spread apart sometimes. it can take them a month to pick their way through the narrowed down pool.
I have a friend who got into Northeastern w/out an undergrad Arch. degree, despite it being a pre-req for admission. We are both transferring programs (or trying to), so he has a decent portfolio. It's still surprising, but you just never how schools will evaluate different situations.
I wasn't saying the gradcafe posting was underqualified.. the contrary: he was OVERqualified. a) asu doesnt have a b.arch and b) b.arch's are over qualified for a standard M.Arch 1. those two degrees are basically different means for the same end.
I think the person was probably just confused on the difference between a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture (BA in Arch). Plus, I don't think UT has sent out decisions for M.Arch IIs yet.
in at IIT too....well conditionally accepted. Does anyone know what that means? they said they will send an official letter of acceptance in a week or two that will also state the conditions.
Congrats Sonali! My guess would be that your acceptance is conditional on the completion of certain prerequisites or maybe upon completion of you current degree.
I have an accredited BArch from CCA, but at the time, they didn't have a thesis requirement, which is my main impetus for going to grad school. I'm also trying to get my foot in the door and get some GSI experience, so I can potentially teach ... Anyone else with a similar story?
I'm getting antsy about UCLA after reading simply37's post. It's my first choice, and I've neurotically checked the admissions website since yesterday. Hoping next week comes quick!
Dont worry Panda Eyes, so am I. It seems like they give out acceptances within a 3 week window, and simply's was the first I've heard of. so I think we're still fine.
I just read in an email I previously received from Cincinnati that I would receive an e-mail when my application was complete...I have received no such e-mail- did anyone who applied to Cincinnati get said e-mail? I'm going to call tomorrow but I feel like they would have let me know if they were missing something from my application.
2010 M.Arch applicants, commiserate here!
Andimdone: I can sympathize with your hatred for weekends nowadays, but to me a day off will always be a day off :)

NYCBlues

I found the Faculty Calendar of GSD on the net.
http://www.gsd.harvard.edu/calendar/fac_cal.pdf
This year's open house for admitted students seems to be scheduled on April 9th, so we will be able to hear our results by then!

GOOD NEWS... got a surprising call from David Leven (graduate director of Architecture at Parsons) around 2:30pm today... and I'm in!

Congrats Ann R.! Awesome.
I wonder if there is any hope for those of us who haven't heard...

Atty - last year there were acceptances from Parsons until the end of March, some who received substantial scholarships.
I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet.
in at IIT! Advanced Standing. Yes, 2 down 5 to go.
Good Luck all, March is here!
Lidandan and Villian -

So i just spoke with a rep from UMich
said that notification of decision will be made sometime next week.
and you can check online to see...
Thanks Atty,
I think so too...I'm taking a pre-req to a pre-req right now...I'm hoping to be done with the physics and calc by the time school starts.
hope you hear soon!
