Hey everyone...I've been lurking around since way back in May when I was still iffy about applying lol. If I weren't 8 hours ahead of the US, I don't think I could get any work done during the day! I'm already anxious as it is and refreshing this thread as much as I can!
The tally so far:
UIC - In
UVa - In $
UT Austin - In
GSAAP - Out
WUSTL - In
USC - In
GSD -- still holding hope for fedex
I'm an international applicant with a B.Arch '06. Since I'm so far away, I wont be able to attend ANY of the open houses. Anyone's input on the open houses would be much appreciated!
Congratulations to all those that got accepted. Especially if its your first choice!!
ahas, i'm also abroad and won't be able to attend any of the open houses. i did get into the maud program. i am considering the program as an alternative to m.arch 2.
suedehead and ahas, as much as I wish I was wrong, I'm pretty certain that those of us who haven't heard from GSD yet are either rejected or waitlisted (which will most likely lead to being rejected). Historically, as can be seen from gradcafe, Harvard will have notified all of their accepted applicants by now, and will notify rejected applicants probably sometime next week or the week after. Furthermore, as we have seen, it seems all accepted applicants have received an email confirming their acceptance already. Finally, I don't think the admissions committee will be making further decisions on who to accept at this date. Don't hold your breath.
last year my friend found out a week after another girl in our same undergrad program that he got in. harvard sends their acceptances in waves. the next wave depends on how many accept immediately. i think the majority who found out already were AP, and a few regular. I'm pretty sure all the international students found out though. the list on gradcafe is far too small for MArch 1. at least im hoping this is the case...
also, i had contacted the admissions office via email on wednesday march 17 asking about when we should hear acceptance/rejections. she responded:
"Currently, the Committee is in the process of finalizing their list, so I expect all decision notifications will be out by the end of next week at the latest."
a handful found out on thursday march 18, the next day. i find it hard to believe she would say "they are in the process of finalizing their list" if the list and letters were done and sent.
again, im being hopeful, but it seems to be the case
For a couple schools that I got into that are expensive I am considering asking for aid $. If I was awarded aid it may in fact change my decision... I see in an earlier post that Daubentonia said to ask for more $$ once you get accepted. Anyone else had luck or not had luck with this?

I've just taken a look at a few portfolios that got people into the likes of Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, etc., and ... is anybody else underwhelmed?
Most of the work was small-scale and very mediocre. Common among all of them was a lack of artistic prowess. I've seen portfolios with much higher quality content but the owners slapped in the face from these schools.
I guess it all boils down to the same point, becoming seemingly more truthful by the minute: it's a very arbitrary process.
Thanks ahas, I'm still waiting on UCLA too but it seems like that might not be happening. Although I heard they do their acceptances in waves... So who knows.
If it makes any of you GSD waiters feel any better
I was considered for the Deans Merit Scholarship
so they might have just wanted to get my stuff out earlier
I agree with rickos
You gotta wait till the fat lady sings
Until then you're still alive
Have any people who were accepted by Rice received any snail mail yet?
I thought I would have received it by now but it wasnt in the mail today. I am dying to tell my friends and family, but I wanted to wait until I saw the official snail mail. I want to make sure I didnt imagine the whole phone conversation. lol
soni, I'm waiting (somewhat impatiently) as well. unlike you, I didn't receive a call so I'm almost completely in the dark. I need to know if it's worth it to pull the trigger on a ticket to H-town at this point.
hey guys, I haven't received the official package yet either and I live in Houston. I remember she said during the phone call that everything was being mailed out on this past Wednesday.
I was wondering if anyone remembers the exact dates of the Rice open house? Was it 8th and 9th or just 9th? Thanks and congrats!
I called UT Austin yesterday and the guy on the other line (complete jerk) told me that they were still making decisions and would notify people in the next week or so. so...looks like we still have to wait...and they are FULLY AWARE that we (question marks) are still out there....
re: UCLA I got notification that I needed to take three classes this summer. However, I have already taken two of them, so I guess I need to clear that up before I make any decisions. And no word on financial for me. I'm hoping it's coming, because that will also determine UCLA's feasibility for me.
I was starting to look at apartments near Columbia, but wasn't planning on getting a place until August. Now I think that might be waiting too long. Any thoughts? Anyone else looking for a place in the uws?
Yeah i'm looking as well. I don't really know what I'm looking for yet. Do you know anything about grad housing? I'm wondering if it's worth it to try for housing if it's close to campus?...hmm
I guess I have more questions than answers at this point.
To those who applied to Cornell (MArch I): Were you required to submit a sample of academic writing of approx. 10 pages? Their website states it is strongly recommended for Ph.D. and recommended for post-professional M.Arch.; it doesn't clearly state whether this is a requirement for MArch I (I assume it is?)
Sci-arc says they are not notifying till the end of the month. When looking at the grad cafe stats it seems as if its always the end of the month / start of april.
Yes, I applied for sci-arc for their M.Arch 2 program. I'm really hoping I get accepted their. One of my friends is currently attending their program and loves it.
Do you already have a professional degree. The M.Arch 2 is not a post-professional program... right? At least that's the feeling I get from reading about it.
That is something I have been confused about because most times when you see an M.Arch 2 program it is post-professional. Any insights??
Yo Teabone... I submitted a writing sample and still didn't get in... guess they're not looking for writers. I have never met anyone with a Ph.D in Architecture, have you? They might be an endangered species?
2010 M.Arch applicants, commiserate here!
anyone get into the GSD MAUD program?

Publix, I'm waiting to hear on MAUD as well. My last count at grad cafe was 3. So, I'm holding out hope that there are more waves to come...
ahas, i'm also abroad and won't be able to attend any of the open houses. i did get into the maud program. i am considering the program as an alternative to m.arch 2.
Hey guys, for the people who got in to UIC, did you apply for M. Arch 1? Thanks!

^ unfortunately, I think Greg is absolutely right. Oh well...
greg,

Daubentonia, thanks for the advice!

I'm convinced texas lost my application.
ahas,
when did you recieve notification from USC and how?
thevillain,
I'm convinced they lost mine too.

@ redmeat - I applied MArch 1 for UIC
I've just taken a look at a few portfolios that got people into the likes of Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, etc., and ... is anybody else underwhelmed?

Now I'm off to save the day.
Or end it.
TheHero - can you please post a portfolio that meets your standards? Maybe it is even yours? I would love to see it. Nothing is arbitrary...
here here!
zoon
any chance we can drool over your portfolio? Please post it!
redmeat -- got into MArch II @ UIC
fyzzywuzzy - I found out earlier today via email. It was from the Int'l student office and not the SOA though.
Greg, you're probably right. But like rickcos, I'm choosing to be an optimist at the moment.
ahas,
Thanks, I'll keep my head up still on being accepted there. Seems as if there have only been a few notifications so far.
Does anyone have to complete their pre-req's for UCLA Fall passage?
This is frustrating.
In my Berkeley acceptance email they mentioned the quality of my portfolio, but they also mentioned my essay and my past achievement ...
Thanks for the responses guys. Much appreciated.
fuzzywuzzy, I think I read somewhere that they notify in the last week of march. So don't lose hope just yet. Good luck!
Thanks ahas, I'm still waiting on UCLA too but it seems like that might not be happening. Although I heard they do their acceptances in waves... So who knows.
and the UBC rejections begin on the GradCafe....

Hopefully it gets here by monday AND that ticket prices don't suddenly shoot up for you.

TeaBone,
didn't submit, got in.
Good to know although
thanks !
Hello Again...
Is any body out there still waiting to hear from SCI-Arc? Does anybody know how and when they will be notifying people?
In particular for the MDesR - MediaSCAPES Program...
Thanks
waitImpatiently
Sci-arc says they are not notifying till the end of the month. When looking at the grad cafe stats it seems as if its always the end of the month / start of april.
@FuzzyWuzzy
Thanks for the info. I'll check out the gradcafe for more. Did you apply to SCI-Arc? What program?
waitImpatiently,
Yes, I applied for sci-arc for their M.Arch 2 program. I'm really hoping I get accepted their. One of my friends is currently attending their program and loves it.
