zoon_ your portfolio must have been really impressive with those stats. you should be proud for sure. i'm not sure if you already have, but care you share your folio? just refer me to the page if you've already posted it.

rascuache_ i'm glad that you won't be settling. i totally understand what you mean and sci-arc will always have a special place in my heart. i can honestly say that i love that place. i used to work in that area (little tokyo) and it's just one of my favorite places in all of los angeles. it can get kinda seedy at night since it's basically skid row, but still. there's suehiro's, zip fushion, wurstkuche, grass roots, the tore dows the mitsuwa market, but still. i just really like that area. i mean there's a view of the downtown la skyline from the sci-arc wood shop. that's just absolutely sick!!! anyway, i'm sure you'll figure it out. cca isn't well known and they just got accredited last year, still- i think they're program is really promising. also, as you mentione ut austin is ranked really high, so i'm sure there's a reason for that. i don't know what to tell you mean, follow your heart and feel it out. just really feel it out. if a school steals your heart, then let it take it! i'm sure it'll all work out in the end. you'll know.

Oh no! Rejected by Harvard and MIT on the same day. Oh well, it will be hard enough choosing between Columbia, Cornell and Yale (my top schools), and maybe Penn if I somehow get in.

Being nearly done with the process, I would like to offer my sincerest congrats to everyone getting into their dream schools in the most competitive year (ever)! we're awesome.

always be confident!! easier said than done. i wouldn't say i'm all that confident, more open. i guess ultimately, i don't mind making an ass of myself. hah.

zoon_ post the folio when you can, foo' you've been admitted to hah. vahd. if that isn't an ego booster, then i don't know what is...

although_ don't sweat the small stuff. did any of the three schools offer money? of the three, i'm thinking maybe yale sounds good...i don't know. got my first rejection today and it was from mit. it hurt less than a paper cut dipped in limes.

how can i care about a job i've been at for over 4 years when i'm getting ready to leave in a few months? after a 15% pay cut, then another 5% pay cut, i'm just beyond over it. i'd rather post on this thread than get my work done... this is gonna drive me crazy!

word2bird,

sorry to hear about MIT. awesome school, but Cal is such a great opportunity for you! You must be over the moon.
I agree re:Yale, mostly because of the Building Project, which is my wet dream. As for the small stuff, their equipment list had me salivating for a week.
And because I'm an international applicant, I wasn't eligible for any support at this time. It sucks, but hopefully I'll get my permanent resident status by next year and beg for some cash.
Really excited for the open houses!

naomi!!! please say you're picking berkeley. or would you rather leave cali? i actually had not intentions of leaving cali and was only willing to for 3 schools...mit, u of much and risd. but not that this crazy opportunity came up with berkeley, i think my destiny is set :)

isn't this freaking thread so obnoxiously addicting? i still can't get myself to work on work crap.

rascuache--i am reeapplying to berkeley next year after taking a summer program--and I'm 29! i feel quite old to be changing careers but i also feel like i also have a much more developed idea of what the investment in time and money really means, having worked for a few years and gotten to know what i really like and want careerwise

good luck to you and look forward to hearing your impressions on cca after a visit

haha bird, i couldn't quit the forum.
we'll see about berkeley. no definite decisions yet. my offer is *almost* too good to refuse.

naomi_ if i had your offer, i'd see it at as too good to refuse, specially since in state tution is loads cheaper than any private school. it's at least $10k cheaper per year than cca, I think... i don't know though. plus, we can live in oakland instead of the city, so the cost of living is a bit less as well. i suppose it's not just about the money. i really did like my time there.

i'm hoping to see you at cal :)

Joscelin:
Advice regarding Berkeley's summer program, if it's the one you choose:

1) Along with application for the program, send a few images of your best work, if you're a visual person. I didn't because there wasn't a place for it on the application, and I didn't get in. Then got in off the waitlist. Then got a fellowship.

2) If you can help it, DON'T have a job. I worked mornings and weekends and it killed me. I was very jealous of people who got to make use of their weekends and mornings in the studio.

3) Get Keith.

great advice ncro, thanks very much

i haven't gotten the imminent berkeley rejection yet (any second now...) but i'm already applying for the summer program for round 2!

Joscelin_ take ncro54's advice. i lived with my sister in oakland and took a leave of absence from work to participate in berkeley's [in]arch summer program. if berkeley is one of your top choices, i think it would be beneficial to participate in their program. definitely try not to have to work while in the program because the time commitment is huge. and you absulutely MUST be in keith's section. this is crucial! i wasn't in his section and sufferred immensely. try your best to be in his section. you'll get a better experience with keith as your leader. he also teaches at cca and is the reason i even applied to cca.

Woah someone should put a warning on here... DO NOT LOOK AT PAGE 38!!
Gross. Melany should stop trolling this thread with their bs.

congrats to everyone who has heard stuff lately!

I agree on the waiting for Penn. It was the 1 ivy I chose because philly is bitchin'. But there would have to be something really wrong with them if they mistakenly accepted me and offered me money. lol We'll see on Monday!

Hi passerby--i currently work at Google in communications in Latin America (based in Buenos Aires). I studied Comp Lit and Spanish and have also worked as a journalist. For myriad reasons I've been exploring the possibility of a design career for a few years now. I have some web design experience but was always really drawn to architecture. I guess the very broad answer is that I felt that a liberal arts background was setting me up for careers in communications, marketing, advertising...things I basically see as abstractions, and am pretty bored with...I really wanted to specialize in a design field and learn a trade. I could elaborate but got to catch a flight to Mexico DF...great advice Bird, definitely going to try to do Berkeley's program.

GAAH just learned that any and all packages to my house have all been misdelivered. Someone who I don't know picked up my package from Amazon. That means I have no idea about the GSD..... and their admissions office is closed tomorrow! Gack.

*gsapp open house that is.

Has anyone tried to log on to this site:

https://apply.embark.com/grad/harvard/design/decision/57/

and gotten anything but a "According to our records, you do not have access to this form." message?

Mar 19, 10 10:09 pm  ·

Still some schools left, but pretty confident that I am going to accept to Berkeley.

A big hello to all my potential classmates!

Very excited and hope to meet you all at the open house April 5th. (flying out from Virginia).

Greg., ah hehe, thanks. good call. but I'd rather see a "hey, you've been rejected" than a "ERR 404 ERROR NOT FOUND IN STUDENT RECORDS BEEP" message, ya know?

@suedehead _

yes, i tried that as well, which i suspect triggered this message that i received shortly after:

Dear fasttrakstatus,

Thank you for using our online decision form. Log in here to access this form in the future: https://apply.embark.com/grad/harvard/design/decision/

Best regards,

fasttrakstatus, right, I got that too... although do we know that someone who has been accepted to the gsd has logged in successfully and gotten something other than an error message?

Mar 19, 10 11:06 pm  ·

True, suedehead, we don't know this. But they aren't talking. And the gradcafe postings are scarce. The accepted GSD people are a quiet bunch this year.

Yes I was recently accepted into GSD's M.Arch AP program. When I log in to that site, it asks me whether or not I would like to accept or decline my admission.

I wouldn't worry too much as I think decisions are still in circulation. I hope this helps and I hope the best!

First I was accepted to UCLA. Then I get the packet that says it's conditional on my pre-req's.

WTF. I just bought my ticket to the open house. Now i have to take 9 credits?

I just got the same letter/email that lewisandclark got. Has anyone heard about funding at UCLA? I wasn't hopeful, given the UC situation this year, but Berkeley seems to have things to give out and I haven't gotten $$ information from either. I can't tell if that means "sorry, no" or "keep waiting."

word2bird, did you receive your berkeley funding offer in the initial letter?

Mar 19, 10 11:49 pm  ·

for some reason, i have a feeling that ucla has less funding. i hear their tuition is also higher than berkeley's. the fellowship i was offered was mentioned in the initial acceptance letter. the email mentioned the fellowship was a nomination, so i confirmed with sara mccarthy who explained they use the word "nominate" since the fellowship is from the graduate division and not the department and also since it is pending my acceptance of their offer.

i don't think it would be out of line to inquire about whether ucla will offer you any aid. though if they've send others information about aid, then who knows...

Im new to this discussion, applied for MARCH option 1 to UBC, UW, UofO, cal poly, UCLA, and ASU. I was accepted to cal poly pomona, ASU and UofO and havnt heard back from the rest yet so im assuming ill be denied and now trying to weigh the pros and cons of ASU vs Oregon. Does anybody know ANYTHING about ASU, info about the program is really hard to find, especially about the MBA/MArch dual degree!! Any insight will be much appreciated!

I got into the GSD! yay. but they offered NO money. only loans. anyone else have any experience with this? all of the other schools i've gotten into so far offered cash, so i'm a bit discouraged...what kind of grants/scholarships are all of you out there getting from the GSD? should i call and ask what they can offer above loans?

Received rejection emails from MIT and Berkeley today. Berkeley told me I'm part of a group of rejectees that they are inviting to participate in their summer program (without having to apply, just would have to tell them by April 1 if I want a spot and find a way to pay for it), but that's not an offer I'm likely to take since I'm accepted to a couple schools I'm really excited about (U of O and UT Austin)!

Still waiting to hear from UW, but I'm out of the country until Monday and am hopeful that there will perhaps be mail from them waiting for me at home. I told the housesitter not to tell me about any mail so I could relax and enjoy my trip, but here I am on Archinect anyways...

always ask for more!!!
you have your foot in the door
ask for the cookie and the glass of milk
my experience with my undergrad and financial aid was
school sends letter
i ask for more
they give me more
BAM!
i'd suggest even the schools where you already got money
ask for more of that cash money baby
