been a quiet reader, havent posted in a while. only got two more schools to hear from but ill post now.
GSD - in yesterday, postmarked the 15th. still doing it in waves it looks like. small grant.
MIT - in with money
GSAPP - in
UCLA - in
Berkeley - in
UT Austin - in
UPenn - monday
SciArc - ?
ive definitely been really lucky. 23, music major at nyu, 3.7 gpa. 560V 760Q. portfolio was mainly design work from some arch classes, but nearly all projects were rooted in music and proved how i want to use music as a means for design, and i think thats what helped the most. statement and good recs too.
I believe the summer studios @ GSAPP are only for the AAD peeps... apparently that class starts about 100 or so, although I've heard attrition takes its toll over the course of the year.
For the benefit of all, Columbia's courses for the next year here:
hey can anyone tell if i am accepted if i get this e-mail? my contact address is not my personal so wont receive anything now. plsss tell me not everyone gets this!! thanks :)
haha, I clicked on your link for the decision form to see if it would let me log in! It said i didn't have access to use the form... that doesn't sound promising for me!
oh so that's how you can check whether you're in or not (if you haven't received the package by now)- click on the decision form link and type in your application log in name!
I wonder why SCI-Arc does their notification so late.
Their open house isn't until the 19th... I'd have to make a decision by the 15th without ever having a chance to really check it out (the way they'd want me to anyway)
I'll be going to the UCLA open house on the 29th... Should I try to arrange a private tour or something at SCI-Arc? Is that pushy?
long time creeper first time poster
got the same email as zoon about
applied to the march I to
the GSD
called them up
you got in playa
seems like USPS has been hella slow
they said that i should have already received a package
and that if it hasn't arrived by the beginning of next week ring em up and they'll send it again or give you the necessary info
lewisandclark_ contact shelby, she's really cool and it would be a good idea to tour the school where you're in la. i personally love the sci-arc vibe. i'd go there if berekeley didn't make me an offer i couldn't refuse. plus, i'm really interested in a dual m. arch/ master's in urban planning degree, so i'm berkeley bound.
i think that sci-arc has't a very specific voice and when you visit and see the pin-ups, you'll know if it's for you or not. pretty expensive though...
congrats to the harvard admits! i mean harvard is... Hah..Vahd! very exciting! i personally didn't apply to any ivy's and really don't want to attend one. my reach school was mit... haven't heard from them, so i'm guessing it'll be a no thanks.
i understand the glamour surrounding attending a ivy league school, but i just don't see myself belonging with a bunch of rich, uppity kids. j/k totally talking shit here. hatorade!
seriously though, congrats! funny that ya'll would get that email before the package. they should consider sending email decisions like most schools. come on, it's freaking 2010!
thefridge, I got 11K from CCA. It was stated in the offical letter. I think ncro54 also get 10K too from a couple of pages ago. Also, people in financial aid office said they will send package within 2 weeks.
Went to visit CCA yesterday. It is a great school. I really liked it. A relatively smaller program. Professor even remembered my background and things in my application. Very impressive.
gsd better let me know vie email one way or the other because I just snapped my mail key in half.
I hear ya bird, at least about harvard.. I applied there because they made it very easy to reapply from my first go around (when a respected prof recommended I try). I was very unexcited about the gsd.. the more I research the more I get the impression from them that they're all: 'we're harvard, and we have fancy-pants architects, and we dont really need to care about what our pedagogy is.'
anyways, it's an amazing school, but I wont be too bummed if I dont get it. Already got into one of my top choices, and waitlisted at the other.
you know you're addicted to this thread when you post via celly while waiting for the shuttle at the Toyota dealer to take you back to work... apparently they just check to make sure your car is "healthy" for the recall...WTF?
So does any one who went through this last year or have some insight know anything about getting off a waiting list and into a school? I'm in the same boat as Atty and would like some help with my chances. I already know to accept an offer from a school I've been accepted to in hopes of a spot opening but is there any way to get pushed up on the "unranked list"?
fyi, the school is UMich. Luckily, many people on here who got accepted also got accepted to Ivies and hopefully open up spots for us little people.
Just received the email from Harvard ... hadn't received any mail yet so thought they might've shunned me. :( But turns out they didn't. :)
Again, my stats:
21 years old, undergraduate music major
applied to non-AP MArch I and MLA programs
No prior architecture academic/work experience or design studios
Final tally (kicked Sci-Arch out of the list before having heard any news from them yet, as I decided I didn't want to go there)
Yale - accepted (email, +phone call later from Stern congratulating me on my outstanding portfolio, full ride)
MIT - accepted (congratulatory phone call from Yung Ho. Nice 10 minute chat with him, nearly full ride)
Virginia - accepted, full ride
Michigan - accepted, full ride
UT Austin - accepted, full ride
Parsons - accepted, full ride
RISD - accepted, nearly full ride
Berkeley - accepted, full ride
Cornell - accepted, full ride
Columbia GSAPP - accepted, full ride
Harvard GSD - accepted, called and found out i got nearly a full ride
Princeton - accepted, full ride
I've heard some requests for my portfolio, and this is understandable given my results. The problem is, due to the nature of the portfolio, it's not going to be easy to upload online, but I'll try to get some photos up so you get an idea of what I did. Let's just say you could call it a machine of sorts. :) Anyway, I'll try to get it up - check back soon!
Good job this year everyone. Bon voyage at your respective destinations.
Just got off the phone with GSD admissions. They said that "the decisions for your program were not ready yet" (M. Arch 1 non-AP) and that they would be ready and sent out by the end of next week. Not sure if they were just sparing me the bad news but they seemed very honest about it.
yby, I'm pretty sure they're just sparing you the bad news. The email they sent doesn't seem to specify AP. And I find it very hard to believe they haven't made their decisions yet. It is LATE.
Called Harvard for my decision, got a short email with a "thanks, but no thanks".
Oh well, that's all I needed to know to make my decision about next year.
And to whoever asked about Columbia's Intro - yes, it's the summer Introduction to Architecture program and I can't recommend it enough.
so i tried that link zoon posted - gsd online decision link - and entered my log-in name and pw. It gave me a "your info does not permit you to enter this site" type of error message. I guess that means I'm not in! (fine with me - got my first choice anyways)
why don't you guys who haven't received an official package try the link as well. I'd love to know if any of you can get through the link!
2010 M.Arch applicants, commiserate here!
Hmm...
Very few GSD acceptances posted. How very odd.
An internet-savviless bunch? Or evidence that letters have yet to arrive?

quiet a few on grad cafe, though.
^ I'm talking about just MArch I for Fall 2010. I've only counted ~5.
USC says everyone should be notified by April 1

Thanks blanco teko,
100 students seems really large! I've heard GSD MArch2 is around 15 students. Do you think the large number makes the program seem less attractive?
hey can anyone tell if i am accepted if i get this e-mail? my contact address is not my personal so wont receive anything now. plsss tell me not everyone gets this!! thanks :)

zoon and daubentonia,
are you both AP? where are you located?
lewisandclark - not too pushy at all. Just tell them you will be in the area and you were hoping to check it out while you are there.
Cococha - did it work for you?
congrats to the harvard admits! i mean harvard is... Hah..Vahd! very exciting! i personally didn't apply to any ivy's and really don't want to attend one. my reach school was mit... haven't heard from them, so i'm guessing it'll be a no thanks.

i got 17K from cca but it still seems a bit pricey and i think i would rather be in more of a university-type setting
berkeley is breaking my heart slowly and painfully...reject me already!!
someone just posted an acceptance to urban planning @ University of Toronto on tgc
yea I'm guessing if ya can't access the "decision" page your at best waitlisted. could be wrong though.
everything at this point is icing on the cake though. Into my top choice
Just left a VM for Shelby... hopefully she can arrange a lil' somethin' somethin'.
some comic relief - someone on gradcafe posted their rejection from harvard, having applied for a phd in parking lot attendance.
accepted UIUC, but no information on any $ or limited standing
Nice job peeps. Was this a bulk email sent to all accepted students at once? If so, looks like I'm out.
To which I say: your loss, Harvard. I always knew I was too good for you.
cococha zoon and daubentonia,
can you guys or the others accepted to GSD let us know if you received advanced placement (AP)? thanks!

Well now we've clearly established that Melany is trying to bullshit us all.
I think so too... but her portfolio is a machine!!!! Its a terminator
LOL you guys don't believe me?
Wait, just a sec, I'll get my portfolio up so I can show you.
Here it is:

So word2bird, did they offer you tuition for all 3.5 years or just for one year?
Just got off the phone with GSD admissions. They said that "the decisions for your program were not ready yet" (M. Arch 1 non-AP) and that they would be ready and sent out by the end of next week. Not sure if they were just sparing me the bad news but they seemed very honest about it.

So are all the GSD M.Arch AP notifications out?
BUT just to check, for those of you who received the email, are you AP or non-AP?
Much obliged.
where is UW and RISD's notifications!!!!!!! im freaking out!
ugh
Called Harvard for my decision, got a short email with a "thanks, but no thanks".

And to whoever asked about Columbia's Intro - yes, it's the summer Introduction to Architecture program and I can't recommend it enough.
I wish someone would have told me that a picture of a dildo was the secret to a free graduate education....
hellraiser, 2 of my friends who heard back from GSD are AP. thats why im trying to get the same answers. i'm guessing (hoping) only AP's went out
can you guys post stats
so i tried that link zoon posted - gsd online decision link - and entered my log-in name and pw. It gave me a "your info does not permit you to enter this site" type of error message. I guess that means I'm not in! (fine with me - got my first choice anyways)
why don't you guys who haven't received an official package try the link as well. I'd love to know if any of you can get through the link!
If you guys haven't seen this... pretty interesting. Especially for the GSAPP'ers... which I am not.
