Got a call from the dean and they offered me a full ride. I still cant believe it.
So here's the tally:
GSAPP - out
Rice - in (full ride)
Texas - ???? (who knows what's happening there)
GSD - ???? (honestly it would take a bloody miracle)
I'm so happy because I thought I would not get in anywhere. I don't have to worry anymore. If you are in the same boat as I was please do not give up hope.
Good luck and congrats to everyone who has gotten acceptances!!!
Too many posts and become unable to follow up...
WorkingHoot and Razvan, so we are likely to become classmates from Sep! I'm also accepted as AP.
Since I met Jesse Reiser and many guys from Princeton, my first choice inclines toward Princeton from the GSD...hmm... What should I do? I think I really need to go and see Princeton! Anyway, I haven't hear from the GSD yet and if I'm rejected, I would definitely head up to Princeton
the ut declination says :
"Your application has been given careful consideration by the committee on Graduate Studies. On the basis of their recommendation, your application has been denied. If you have questions, please write directly to the Committee in your major department."
kind of lame! based on the other responses this is by far the least formal i've seen.
congrats soni for getting a FULL RIDE at an awesome school! this just proves that the schools that don't accept have no clue what they're missing.
what a tossup!
Thanks, word2bird! All I have to say is: God is good!
I will try uploading my portfolio this weekend, but in the meantime I can give you my stats.
B.Arch '09 (at a no-name school that is very big on design)
3.94 GPA
680 V 700 M 4.5 W GRE
I don't really know if admissions committees really care about this but I was the valedictorian.
I am curious about scholarship. Does anyone know what schools do with scholarship if someone decided not to attend the school? Will they move to next choice? Or, simply keep it.
I would think they would most likely just keep it, save it for the next year to offer people. Just speculation on my part though.
Soni,
Those are some pretty impressive stats if you ask me. Im pretty sure on the first day of my studio class the prof. came in and said that no matter how good our design is he still isn't giving us an "a". Im pretty sure no one got an "a" either. But congrats, that can't be easy especially in architecture school.
My stats are just the product of hard work, a lot of sacrifice, and God's grace. Also, an "a" at one school is not the same as an "a" at another school. It's possible that I could have gotten c's at your school. Who knows...
Im sure you would have done just as well. Im not trying to take anything away from your hard work I was just simply saying from someone being in an arch program as well I know how much hard work you must have put in.
soni_ really great stats. thanks for sharing. it would be cool to see your portfolio when you get the chance. i'm pretty sure that when it comes to giving out full rides, every little thing matters. your academic success really paid off! by the way, which "no name" school did you attend?
Soni,
That really sucks about the teeth. But don't sell your school sort I actually had a couple professors (one of whom wrote me a rec) come from UH both undergrad and grad.
i havent been the most diligent of posters but i do appreciate the insight and generosity of those in this community. i wish everybody the best in the next couple of weeks as things begin to settle.
hirano, razvan and workinghoot… i plan on making the princeton open house. i hope we get a chance to meet. my portfolio should be available soon and you can get a better idea of who i am and how i work.
Mugged, I personally loved UH. I was lucky enough to have 5 great studio professors that really care about you. They were the type that would stay up after studio time and even come on the weekends to see how you were getting along.
thanks Cvett.. I haven't posted my portfolio yet as it's only on my macbook right now. I'll work on getting it to issuu or whatever if I get some time.
experim: mit and rice are my top choices as well..I was waitlisted @ mit..so, looking like rice right now :). you should checkout bldgblog and search 'rice'. Geoff usually posts their thesis proposals and it's very interesting stuff.
5:58pm_received an email from my new best friend, sara mccarthy. i'm in at berkeley AND they'd like to nominate me for the prestigious graduate opportunity program fellowship which covers all fees and tuition and a stipend of $10,000 for the 2010-2011 academic year.
please don't wake me if i'm dreaming. does this mean i have the fellowship...wtf is "nominate"
i'm going ape shit, alex! please let this not be a mistake...but it can't be. sara even know to call me bird. she knows its me. the letter from jill stoner says me name...fuck fuck fuck! am i gonna get thrown off for cursing too much?
2010 M.Arch applicants, commiserate here!
lol ut austin said no. check the site if you're still waiting for a response.

Big Red - Congrats to a fellow UW admit! I'll be at the open house on April 2nd so hope to see you there.
ut eid still says...
"We have received all credentials required to process your application. Your file has been forwarded to the Graduate Committee for review."

congrats, soni. share your portfolio with us :)
