a.sorell: just check your wolverineaccess status, it's been updated.
it's been a long time full lots of self-doubt and angst, but it's all feels so much better with this acceptance :) ... I feel like I now have at least one great school to go to. waiting on 11 more now. congrats to everyone who's received good news today, and keep your head up everyone else!
Congratulations praxis99 and everyone who got a call from MIT today! I spent the entire day freaking out, and then I calmed down and wrote a blog entry :P
The short version: And then, just like Yung Ho Chang had ruined my day, he also saved it. I remembered what he had said at the faculty discussion at the MIT open house: "I applied to MIT as a young man... and I was rejected... and now I am the dean."
congrats to those who have gotten acceptances so far! this is my first time posting to the thread, but i've become an avid reader over the past few weeks. i'm a non-arch background applicant who did an introductory arch program this past summer. perhaps i'll post my portfolio once the admissions process is over.
i have to say, i think i'm a bit ambivalent about the thread. it's been a tremendous resource in applying, however it's also been rather stressful hearing about others' acceptances and wondering whether i'll be getting in anywhere this year. this was particularly true today with mit, as it's the first of the schools to which i've applied to come out with decisions. unfortunately for me, no 617 on the caller id today.
waqas, your blog post pretty much sums up much of my day as well, constantly checking my phone and missed calls. good luck with the rest of the admissions cycle. also, from the photo, i think we might have met briefly at the princeton open house.
Congrats to everyone who got in.....
But could you guys please indicate if you applied to M.archI or March II now on. I applied to M.arch II and its freaking me out.
Hirano- Yay! If you hadn't gotten in, I would have had no faith in this process... plus, I think it's unfair to compare foreign GPAs to American, they are usually on completely different scales, even if they are both out of a 4.0.
Wow, can't believe MIT was 2 weeks early!
Been fun reading this wave of acceptances, but I'm sure by the time GSAPP and Rice start sending out notices, I'll be out of my mind with anxiety.
Good luck to all, and happy to see the thread picking up :)
jten, great portfolio and congrats... Glad to see UofI reppin' very well... Every professor here still talks about how great the children's discovereum project was... all we got was a lame boutique hotel :(
congrats to everyone who has been admitted! also, i would encourage those who haven't heard back yet to stay positive. what a great community of prospective m. arch students we've got going on here...
wow! i have to say that this space has been a tremendous resource for me. some friends and i read this discussion quite frequently and it has helped with the anxiety, reading all the updates people have been posting about m. arch 2010 admission decisions and all.
thankfully, i have been admitted to cca and u of mich. although, i'm pretty sure i won't be getting that coveted phone call from mit, which i'm ok since that was my reach school. a friend got the phone call, so that's really exiciting. his portfolio is killer!!! as it stands, i'm still waiting for decisions from risd, ucla, sci-arc, berkeley and expecting a "no thanks" from mit. i'm pretty sure i totally screwed up by speaking of dean adèle naudé santos rather than yung ho chang in my essay. oh well, i take full responsibility + i'm sure the caliber of portfolios were really high this year. i've heard that most school's have received the most application ever this year and i'm sure we can thank the economy for that!
for those who applied to ucla, here's an email i received today regarding application completeness:
We do not update the Graduate Division website that you are referring to.
Your application is complete. You should receive your decision from us in about 2-3 weeks.
for reference, my undergraduate education is in economics and music history and i applied to the 3 and a half year m. arch programs. it took me about two years to come up with projects for my portfolio. click either link below to check it out, though the resolution isn't so great.
to the folks who are attending the u of mich open house on the 26th and 27th, let's meet up :D we should all exchange contact points or maybe we can find each other on facebook? you can find me by searching my email robertafeliciano@hotmail.com they call me bird.
thanks for your comments everyone.
you are too kind.
I have seen many great portfolios in this forum
and from my friends applying this year
and I was very dispirited.
I wonder what specific criteria those admission ppl have
when looking through portfolios, as it is very subjective.
Looking back last year on my friends' grad school admission,
some ppl i thought were really good did not get in to school,
whereas the others i thought were so-so got in.
rqtect10 - good to see Illini here! i think our year was lucky to have more freedom on programs and requirements, etc. for senior studio. For boutique project, there were too many restrictions i feel like
I am glad I just recently found this site....it is helpful to me know but I think I would have been too intimidated to apply after seeing all these great portfolios.
PS Pratt says they are notifying this coming week...FINGERS CROSSED!
ahhh i'm going crazy! i applied to five schools, only UT has been listed on grad cafe or here so far.
I saw on grad cafe that people saw acceptances/rejections on the website? where did they go to get that information? I tried logging into the system with my EID. no information there.
i don't live where i think they have my address anymore, so that option is out.
Hello Everyone. I can't seem to sleep so I figured I'd take the time to put up my portfolio. I didn't get accepted into UT, but I got accepted to Parsons with a scholarship. Still waiting to hear from Yale, Columbia, Pratt, City, and UNC Charlotte. I'd appreciate any feedback. I'm glad I'm waiting with you guys.
paozedong, that is a mad ballsy portfolio. i like it. you are honest and the work is impressive. i think it'll be refreshing to admissions to see a portfolio like yours. good luck! this wait is brutal...
archhk - congrats ! WUSTL is an amazing school with a great program. It was one of those schools I regretted not applying to. Did you get a scholarship offer as well? Were you informed via email or was it a call from the school?
Atty - you didnt do too badly either on your apps. I too felt intimidated by the quality of work that other archinecters have posted, and I still do. Like the one just posted by word2bird. Non-arch background yet could come up with a portfolio that awesome. At least, you are assured of a place in Parsons this fall. you should be happy !
Seems like schools are releasing results much earlier than expected despite the snowstorm. My guess is, due to the large no. of apps this year, the schools are expecting a lot of rejects from applicants who are accepted by a few ivies. By making the results known much earlier, it actually gives the school more time to make offers to those on the waiting list.
I chose to work this weekend just so as to keep myself distracted and not get unduly worried about the outcome, which means a lot to me....as it does to fellow archinecters. I feel so happy for those who have already been offered a place, and I hope we will all get into at least one school (hopefully, with a scholarship/fellowship) of our choice !
@snarkitekt: Thanks for your response. However I do realize that these schools notify all of their accepted students at once. I meant, before the actual notification, do they go through all candidates and sort the stronger ones into a pile, which they then choose from for further accepted/waitlisted and rejected students (and if so, would they be working on this atm)? Or do they tend to go straight through the entire heap without a narrowing-down phase?
Where I said, "sort the stronger ones into a pile", I mean that the weaker ones (those not in the stronger pile) are all rejected, and then they "cherry-pick" from within this stronger pile for further students to either accept/waitlist or else to reject.
2010 M.Arch applicants, commiserate here!

anyone else dread the weekends now?
Yup! They seem to come around quickly just to torture me/us
that's what I said last weekend...and now its a whole week later and I STILL haven't heard from anywhere :(
Hirano- Yay! If you hadn't gotten in, I would have had no faith in this process... plus, I think it's unfair to compare foreign GPAs to American, they are usually on completely different scales, even if they are both out of a 4.0.

@jten- sick port! damn, you'll make any school you attend look good... i think you'd be doing THEM a favor.

keopi: mine showed up on the front page of my UTdirect, where it used to say 'sent to graduate committee for review'
also, have many MArch II (post-prof) applicants heard from schools, bc it seems like mostly March I (prof degree)... or am i just in the wrong forum.
I am happy! Got into the MArch III of Washington U at St Louis!!! YAY!! Waiting some more good news from the rest!!!
