Ive just been accepted to BAC, University of Tennessee and Savannah College of Art and Design. I'm still waiting to hear back from Georgia Tech and University of Florida.
Basically I'm wanting to know what people think of these schools and which one's they'd pick for Masters of Architecture programs.
I'm new to the architecture scene so dont know who's sought after or favored as i have a BS Biology and am from South Africa.
I like the BAC program!
Their philosophy in education is based on the real world, and always has been since their inception (over 100+ years ago). You will be a professional (while studying), and you will interact and be taught by professionals.
Bonus: Boston is a really great place to be a student.
I was considering applying to SCAD and Georgia Tech.
Visited both schools this past summer.
My perceptions:
Georgia Tech - large, broad program, technically driven. A faculty member that caught my attention was Lars Spuybroek (principle NOX). Large, clean facility.
When I visited, the gentleman I had conversed and set up an appointment with via e-mail seemed to brush me off like dirt on his shoulder. This eventually led me to not apply.
SCAD - I was more intrigued by their program. Savannah is a really cool city filled with art students. Great great seafood, European vibe with the cobblestone river walks and nicely preserved buildings. Plus, it's on the coast so the beach is a very short trek. As SCAD is an art school, I believe the arch program is more design-oriented. The students I spoke with all seemed to really enjoy the program.
SCAD is a unique and growing program. It will be pretty well known in the future. They offer a 5 yr M.Arch which is pretty rare. Excellent place for theory, conceptual and electronic design...
Plus, Savannah is a very fun, unique and historic city.
Yes shuellmi, SCAD's the only one of the schools that thefox54 is thinking of going to that offers a 5 year master of architecture degree. One would have to look to Yale, Harvard, etc... for another 5 year m. arch type program...
