I have been accepted to CCNY's MLA 1 program starting this August. I decided to apply to CCNY because of its focus on designing in an urban setting and because the location works out for my personal situation.
I'm having trouble getting information on the program though. I've emailed the school to see if I could visit and talk with students and professors, but haven't received a response yet. I have also searched this and other forums for info, but most of what I learned was about their architecture or urban design programs.
That being said, anyone care to offer their opinions on it? ANY insight would be greatly appreciated, but I'm most interested in hearing about the program's reputation, size, and philosophy.
its a new program with few graduates. Probably won't encounter anybody from that program outside of NYC for a while. Should be interesting as there are lots of talented folks available for teaching, ie, you'll get a lot of the folks teaching at pratt, columbia, parsons, NJIT, and even Penn/GSD/RISD.
milodesc - how did you get your acceptance? letter or email? they said that they weren't letting people know until april 30th, so i wasn't expecting to hear anything for a while. i too have had a really hard time getting anything out of them. and it's going to be hard to turn down GSD and UVA for them, but the $$ is very attractive. as is the fact that i won't have to move out of NYC.
the one thing i did get out of them by phone in january was that they are on track to get their accreditation this year.
treekiller - thanks for the input. i'd be paying out of state fees i think, but it still seems like 2/3 the price of other schools.
fleuron - I received a letter in the mail on Thursday (Mar. 12th). funny thing though... the letter asked for a commitment by the Friday (Mar. 20th)! I thought that date was a bit absurd; I'll probably still be waiting to hear from schools by the 20th. so, i emailed them and asked for an extension. i haven't heard back as of 7am this morning. i even quoted the letter i got back in late Feb about them needing commitments by june in my email.
also strange about their letter; no mention of funding/aid, open house, general school info etc... i also noticed some typos.
i'm trying not to judge the school based on the difficulties i've had with the application process. but they're making it difficult!
i've heard they've got a new building for the arch school. has anyone heard about that?

Seems like a great value in grad programs.
