MLA recommendations problem

mike de

So I applied to 6 pretty competitive MLA programs. For 5 of the schools, one of my recommenders still hasn't submitted their letter. It seems no amount of phone calls and emails will help. I completely understand a couple days late or even a week...but it's going on almost a month. Besides me being quite angry about it all, I'm also worried. From talking to the schools, it seems they will process my app. still but of course having one less letter could (or maybe not at all) hurt me.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

We're in similar situations and if I remember correctly, we have both applied to UPenn?

One of my recommenders was considerably late (3 weeks) with submitting to 2 of my six school, but they eventually came through. I've been told over and over again that it's not a big deal, as long as you inform admissions asap of your situation. I guess if your outstanding recs are never delivered, it's one less person vouching for you; however, if you have a strong port, solid letters and are a good candidate, why would they give you the axe based on one missing rec?

Keep your head up - should be fine.

Also, are you heading to UPenn for the open house in early April? If so, we should connect....would be great to meet a potential future classmate.

Best regards,
