SCAFFOLD CONSTRUCTION / SKELETAL STRUCTURES

PALEOwunder2

1. Could anyone suggest buildings that are suspended from a cliff-face or other another building, or something of the like.
2. Suggestions on scaffolding technology / skeletal framing that can have volumes built into it.

I am researching cliff ecologies and sustainable design and would like to find some projects that negotiate construction with a similar site to the Mesa Verde ruins. In particular, how to build from a hypothetical mesa to a cave excavation under the precipice.

My basic concept is to anchor structure/scaffolding to the mesa and suspend those parts over the cliff edge and into the cave where the framing can begin to recess back into the rock. The scaffolding structures will also collect and carry water (from the mesa) as well as other service functions to and through the volumes situated with the framing. The studio is focusing on extreme ecologies / weather with a sustainable and practical, yet inventive focus. Any help, advice, comments are welcome.

Look at the Leers Weinzapfel Tobin Bridge administrative addition- it hangs from below the span of an existing bridge crossing the Charles River-
the photos are under projects on their site-

Seeing as I want to build within the cave formation maybe tension networks are the way to go. We're pushed to think about construction, assembly, and reality for this project and the scaffolding doesn't make as much sense for this site.

look at construction scaffolding and tenting of projects for winter construction - metal bucks in the US, bamboo in the orient. Bamboo is very strong, obviously fits with the green theme, etc.
