I know my GRE score is on the strong side, but that writing sample is in the 4th percentile. If it was in the 25th I wouldn't blink an eye. I just hope it doesn't jump out of the page at ad com like some kind of a scarlett letter.

I found out that I did the essays wrong, suppose an addendum would be improper.

You'll be fine.  I think I got worse GRE scores and got into some good schools.  Hopefully you aren't one of those clowns who think of UVA or UCLA as "reach" schools even thought their academics are downright unsatisfactory.

No I want scholarship to a good state school. If I got a half to a top private, I would consider that. I am all about saving money.

are you applying for fall 2012? If you have enough time to retake it... I think I would. Your V/Q is definitely good enough... and I wouldn't think a 2.5 would be a red flag, but if it's in the 4th percentile, you may want to consider giving it another go. I know people will say that the GRE doesn't matter for MArch programs, and they're mostly right (portfolio portfolio portfolio statement portfolio letters of rec portfolio portfolio)... but in certain cases as a tie breaker that might count against you in a big way.

But then again, if the rest of your app package is strong, they might see it as an anomaly like you say it was, especially if your statement is well-written - which I'm sure it will be if you have a PR/Adv background.

Thanks for the advice. It's ironic that the least important component of the least important component of my application is worrying me because it is so dismal. I contacted a few places. They seem to agree that is not good, the rest of the gre is more important and the portfolio is way more important.

I know this sounds biased, but to give the writing score even an ounce of credence is rediculous. You have fours years of writing essays, or for science no matter your major. Why anyone would even look one way or another on this doesn't make sense.

No one cares about the GRE score, you're going to the equivalent of an art school, you will be fine. The most important thing is the portfolio, then the work experience, then they want to know about your $$$, then your GRE.

I wouldn't worry too much about the low AW score.  I only received a 1060 on my GRE (I did get a 5 on the writing, but I really doubt they cared) and was given assistantship positions at two well respected state schools (pays tuition) and also half tuition at RPI.  I applied this past year and will be starting in the fall. 

All of these schools were able to work with me financially when I asked and made no mention of my low verbal/quantitative score. 

I think you will be fine given the strengths in your verbal/quantitative.  If you don't get significant scholarship money, it certainly won't be because of your GRE score.  Just have an interesting and clean portfolio.

Whether or not you make the financial commitment to go there IMO is far more important to than your GRE score. If you got a 1 on your writing, they'd probably like you even more cause your more likely to just nod to everything you hear :)

ps, you can get into ANY architecture program with a 1200 GRE score.

@burningman, I'm not sure what you are getting at with the financial commitment thing.   Can you explain?  My guess is that you are directing this at private schools like Cornell, UPenn, Harvard, Yale etc.. that sucker students in and ruin their financial futures.  I did not apply to these schools for this reason so I can't speak with any experience, but maybe they are pretty rude with financials.  Even still, i'm not sure what the financial commitment thing is referring to.  A  $500 deposit is required at some schools, but that is at the end of the process.  And yeah, a 1200+ GRE score for architecture will put you in good company, even at the IVYs.

I wrote my gre a week ago.

v- 360( pure bad luck- got around 500 in my practice tests), q- 690.

Gpa- 3.2 so far

Working hard on my portfolio and hope to get good reco letters.

Interned at two architectural firms and one structural engg firm.

Do extracurriculars count?- because I'm a professional classical dancer, have performed nationally and internationally, also play traditional string puppets and a volunteer at an ngo for 3 years now.

Am currently in my 8th semester,studying B.arch.

I still have time to retake my gre but with the new gre system in place, not sure what to do. Is a score of 1050 going to totally kill chances of me getting into the following colleges for M.Arch II?If by writing it again, I could potentially get 1300, what should I do? Please help.

Also, by getting a perfect score in toefl- 120, does that make up for the sad gre score?
