I know the educational differences/focus of each, but what would the difference be in the real world, as far as employment goes? How would the 2 work together in a firm? Are there more diverse job opportunities with the engineering degree, or are they limited to firms? What are your thoughts in general about both degrees?

Depends on where... One can become an architect easily, and the other - not so much.
