Architects famous for rennovating?

ieugenei

what are some firms/architects known for rennovating? I'm extremely interested in restoration/rennovation of old broken down spaces and abandoned buildings, lofts, and warehouses.

name some sites?

Famous restorations/renovations, but not exactly of residential structures -

Carlo Scarpa: Castelvecchio, Querini-Stampalia
Sverre Fehn: Archbishopric Museum of Hamar
Josef Kleuhues: Museum for Pre and Early History Frankfurt
Renzo Piano: Turin Fiat Lingotto Factory
Wood + Zapata: Soldier Field

There are some firms in SF that have done some nice commercial-to-residential renovations. Can't think of names except for Tanner, Leddy, Maytum, Stacy. Their Haight Street loft project was, I think, a renovation and is very nicely done. I wouldn't be surprised if Saitowitz did some conversions as well and his ground-up lofts are nice.

The book "Constructed Reality" published by Wm Stout re: the work of Tanner et al work would be a nice Christmas present for yourself.

they do some good work and have been around the preservation field for a while. but like all big firms, they're pretty stiff and conservative...
