I'm currently studying architecture in the US, but I'd like to transfer abroad. I'm particularly interested in London, and I'm wondering if anybody can give some advice/opinions on some of the schools. I know that UCL and AA are highly respected, but what do people think of some of the other schools? I'm also looking at Royal College of Art, Westminster, London Metro, and South Bank. 'Any I may have missed? Does anyone know about acceptance rates or which schools would make a good 'safety' pic?
Hm. RCA unlike the AA (which is also private) is a bit of a rich kids school, tends to produce designers who operate at arms length from 'real' practice. Greenwich for years was a very, very bad school although improved I think in the last few years. Bartlett (UCL) is kind of decadent, rareified -students often got web-based/advertisingy graphics type jobs after. East London is worth a look and I think for me Westminster (maybe just for the brutalist bldg.). Metropolitan too, but bad facilities I think, was not aware that South Bank was so bad used to have a very practical reputation.
Here's my input. I dont know where your interests are, but the AA has given me the most architecturally, its a small place all about architecture. Also they can be generous with funding. Coming all the way over here one has to set their sights high, its worth focusing on a few of the best schools, and giving your all to one in particular.
london schools
AA,UCL, University of Greenwich (now with some UCL people) University of Westminister (has had some really good undergrad work lately), RCA is pretty good too. Anything else, I wouldnt bother coming over here for.
outside londonCambridge, Mackintosh School of Architecture
Thanks to all for your comments -very helpful! Can anybody comment on the facilities of these schools. Do they all have individual studio space for each student? This may sound like a silly question, but the school that I am currently at does not offer this...
Also, does anyone know about english speaking programs outside of the UK?

RCA is sexy. Very sexy.
South Bank is the UK's worst university.
Just make sure the degree you get in London will transfer back tot he US if you want to work there again...
University of Greenwich is another one to look at.
