has anyone underwent or familiar with sciarc's mediascapes program? it seem somewhat interesting but i visited the school and heard mixed responses. actually mostly negative or unsure of what is done. i also see from their online description that it awards a MDesr and not an MArch. since i have a Barch i guess that this doesn't matter but is a MDesr relevant to any employers? (they also have 2 other programs that awards this degree). any info anyone?
101 archinecters have read this post and not a single response. I did get 2 emails that warned me about the program. It was like being in a horror flick and the main character gets the phone call saying, "You're digging too deep. Stop now, for your own good." Well if anyone else was/is interested in this program let me know.
I guess that I should start by thanking the mediascapes alum, current and other sci-arc students that contacted me. If you received the same responses that I have [which you probably did] then I'd imagine that you're staying away from that program. If you didn't then here's the basic rundown:
> the program in disorganized
> the program director is aloof... not in a cool genius way, more like a I have no direction but just trying to fit something.
> more than 2 people that I've emailed with have said that it is a wannabe program from 2 other schools that are not arch programs. Hence mediascapes has nothing to do w/ arch. (Might be a plus for some)
One person goes in UCLA now and he says that he loves it [for arch]. He also said that mediascapes is a really bad version of UCLA's media lab. Since he isn't the only one to say it, I'm going to take a look at UCLA's program.
If anyone has any opinions on UCLA please share.
:)

I'm interested in knowing what it's all about, but I might be visiting sci-arc soon so maybe I'll at least get their take on it.
But then again maybe I'll get the same mixed responses...
ismith,
