English Language Instruction in Japan?

lremmert

I am currently in a M Arch program at the University of Colorado - Denver and a few of my fellow students and I are thinking of doing a summer semester abroad in a city that has many sustainable and contemporary architecture examples, like Tokyo. We were told by an administrator at UCD that we can do this, but we need to find a university that has an English language studio course in Tokyo, which is proving to be rather difficult. I figured that since I was a regular at 'leeching' these forums/discussions for information, I figured that this community may be able to help me on my inquiry.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

i looked at this when it came up but have little to offer. this is japan. we mostly speak japanese here. actual english language studios do happen but usually in conjunction with a special/visiting program from europe or usa and not as something offered in general. i hear the the university of tokyo is working to change that but am not sure how that is going to fall out.

most of the higher ranked schools, like u of tokyo, waseda, TIT, Keio university are run by profs who speak fair to excellent english. outside of those schools the english content drops precipitously.

there is also the graduate school at yokohama, with riken yamamoto and ryue nishizawa (i think he is still involved), which is actually in english, but last i heard was having funding problems.

apart from that no real ideas...good luck
