GRE help PLEASE!

LinkOne

I took the GRE earlier today and completely messed up my timing. I was so sure I bombed both the Quant and Verbal I figured it would be best to cut my loses and cancel my scores.

After reading up on a few random forums I'm beginning to panic, as it has been suggested upon occasion that cancelled scores can hurt your application.

Can anyone confirm / deny this? Any help would be much appreciated - as an international applicant the importance of the GRE is still abit of a mystery to me. I would REALLY be grateful for some input. I'm quite worried I may have shot myself in the foot...

I wouldn't worry yourself about it. The GRE is only a part (very small part) of your overall application to an architectural masters program; even less for a M ArchII program.
They will not care about a canceled score.

No worries ;-)

I totally bombed the Verbal part of my GRE years back and still got into all schools. I even sent the GREs later after my acceptance to some of the programs. So I don't think, at least in my case, they looked at it that much! I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck!

oh, and on ALL of my applications to graduate school, I sent in open transcripts as opposed having my college sent the transcript directly to the March program school.

Thanks for the responses guys - definately reassuring. My GPA is strong (1:1, Dist - UK system) so I'm hoping that will mitigate against a non-stellar GRE score. Having said that given the competitve nature of some of courses I am applying to I started freaking out about having done so badly.

I'm gonna reschedule it in a months time, so until then Im basically gonna be living, sleeping and eating practice tests and the like. Good times.

Thanks again for the help + advice.

I bombed the FUCK out of the GRE. My scores seriously made a good batting average if nothing else but I got accepted into and attended an arch school that frequently ranks among the top 10 by DI and Arch record and such. I got accepted into other schools as well, and as expected got rejected from a few.

The way I see it, GPA can make up for your scores and it's all about how you present yourself with the portfolio, your statements, and you recomendations.

As others said, the GRE is a very small part of the admissions process. I imagine admissions will continue to be competitive as many have decided to go back to graduate school because of the lack of jobs in the industry.

Don't sweat it. You will be fine. just make sure your portfolio and statements are in tip-top shape.

Oh and because I felt bad about bombing the GRE, I even offered to take it again in a conversation I had with one of the Chairs of the schools. He interupted me and said that it would not be necessary.
