Hi all - I was working on my 'list of schools' and was chasing down links on Stanford and there is a big fat ALERT on the MFA page stating that they will not be accepting applications for the 2011/2012 school year for the Design program...but MS in mechanical engineering for Design Program is. Anybody know what's going on? Is this a normal occurrence - for schools to skip years like this? Or is this a sign of deeper/bigger issues...
as far as I know, schools do this when they are re-structuring the program for some reason. UW did this with their Industrial Design program for a couple of years while they hired new staff and reworked the curriculum. It may suck in the short-term, but I for one am comforted when schools employ this mechanism to address whatever issues they are having instead of trying to do it while they're still offering classes.
