The Fontainebleau military site covers 55 ha of which 38 ha are now disused. Bordered by Avon to the east and situated between the park of the Castle and the forest, the site “Clos des Ebats” offers clear advantages to potential residents.

Nowadays, some social residences situated in the middle of the military site are disconnected
from the town center by a thick boundary, namely the castle grounds.
They are isolated from the rest of the city and suffer a “ghettoization” of the neighborhood.
The project is to develop this land.

To promote a social mix, it is necessary not only to continue to provide social housing, but also to bring a new population on this site of many untapped qualities. Thus the project focuses on the rehabilitation of the old stables facing the social residences. 

The historical aesthetic of this building is an undeniable asset to attract new people to the neighborhood. Indeed, the idea is to welcome not only new families, but also students, as they are numerous in Fontainebleau. Therefore, different types of housing are created from studios to 5 bedroom apartments.

Three common courtyards, whose function is to bring light on the ground floor, are topped with a glass roof. They form both a pleasant meeting place for the residents, but also allow a better climate profitability for the building. Thanks to the glass roof, it is possible to keep all of rubble walls and all exposed wood trusses without insulation.

The ground floor is mainly devoted to family housing as they are inspired by the classical
home including a private garden. Conversely, housings upstairs are dedicated to
the students. The atrium is an opportunity to create links between the two generations
that share common areas.
