Costa Mesa and Oakland, CA – 2/22/2017 – For the first time in history, the American Institute of Architects California Council (AIACC) has honored a collaboration with their Lifetime Achievement Award. California based partners Betsey Olenick Dougherty, FAIA, LEED AP, and Brian Dougherty, FAIA,LEED AP, of Dougherty have been selected for the honor at the AIACC Board of Directors meeting in Los Angeles on February 10, 2017 http://www.aiacc.org/2017/02/14/2017-council-awards/.
Brian has over 40 continuous years of service to the AIA holding numerous positions at the local, state, and national level and continues to represent California through AIACC and National AIA Leadership. Brian was the first practicing architect, and early Board member of the Collaborative for High Performance Schools and a member of the U.C. Berkeley College of Environmental Design Advisory Council. Betsey has been an active member of the AIA since 1976. As one of the first professional women in the AIA Orange County Chapter, Betsey has continued to hold positions at all levels of the AIA, many as the first woman. She continues to serve as a California Architects Board Licensure Advocate as a member of the Professional Qualifications Committee, and currently serves as a Board Member of the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture. Both Brian and Betsey have accomplished so much as individuals, but it is the work they have completed together that defines a lifetime career of dedication and achievement. They are an inspirational duo, supporting fellow professionals, mentoring young professionals, enhancing California communities, engaging volunteers and promoting the value of service through personal and professional commitment. The AIACC Awards Jury voted unanimously to place them in front of the AIACC Board of Directors for approval as they have been “passionate and exemplary pioneers within the AIA and their contributions should be recognized at the highest level possible.”
About the AIA California Council Achievement Awards
The practice of architecture is about creating a legacy - either in portfolio or firm culture or contribution to society. The AIACC Council Awards Program celebrates these attributes with the Council Awards Program. This year’s recipients are now part of the esteemed list of award-winning architects. The Lifetime Achievement Award is the most significant honor presented by the AIACC for service to the profession. This award is presented to an individual (or group) in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the improvement of the built environment and to the aims and goals of the profession of architecture in California. http://www.aiacc.org/
