Located in the heart of Zambia’s copperbelt region, The Mutende Children’s Village was developed by the Bristol Christian Fellowship and Linden Church, Swansea. Having met a member of Linden Church at a Pecha Kucha presentation in Cardiff, Orkidstudio is developing a range of new facilities in collaboration with the Mutende. In Easter 2012, we completed a two week design and build workshop which resulted in a new chicken shed set on the foundations of the old derelict egg-laying house. The new space includes controlled heating, a storeroom and split-door access. This facility will enable the Mutende to generate an income from the sale of the eggs as well as contributing to the children’s dinner menu!
