Keystone Residence

The Keystone Ave Residence is RILEY's first project on the west coast.  After establishing RILEY in New York City in 2010, Noah moved to Los Angeles in 2011 to build a house he had designed for his sister and brother-in-law.  Recruiting his brother and brother-in-law to help frame and finish the house, the project was a continuation of the tradition established by their parents of building the house that you live in.

The focus of the project was to capitalize on the temperate Southern California climate by creating a living space that made the outdoors an extension of the indoors.  The required covered parking became a perfect place for a long outdoor dining table and a small enclosed porch created the opportunity for an outdoor shower in the middle of the city.  The massing of two intersecting volumes allowed the street frontage to remain lower profile and in keeping with the surrounding urban fabric, while the 2 story portion of the house created room to create additional bedrooms and a playroom for the growing family.
