Santuario del señor de Tula

On September 19, 2017, the city of Jojutla, in the Mexican state of Morelos, suffered an earthquake that destroyed more than 2,600 homes, leaving almost all public infrastructure in ruins.

The team composed of AGENdA Agencia de Arquitectura | Camilo Restrepo (Colombia) and the firm of Derek Dellakamp and Jachen Schleich (Mexico), with Francisco Eduardo Franco Ramírez, was in charge of erecting the Sanctuary of the Lord of Tula, a center of worship with more than five centuries of history. With a built area of 450 square meters, the project is based on a large roof composed of brick vaults, supported by a concrete structure with arches resting on the corners. This allows air to pass through and natural light to enter. Returning to the typology of the open chapel, the staggering of the floor from the atrium to the altar provides privacy without losing visual contact with the surroundings.
