AIA LA Merit Award: Additions & Accessory Dwelling Units, 2020

Midnight Room is a new guest house/studio and re-envisioning of the family backyard in Atwater Village. The existing single car garage was torn down, opening up the lot to make the most of the limited space through a series of indoor & outdoor rooms built to welcome three generations. The design is centered around the connection between the two structures and a mirroring of the program. The sleeping and living spaces in the new dwelling and existing house face one another and strengthen family ties while also allowing for privacy and the shared experience of nature.
