Natural Geometries: New Terna Electric Station in Capri

Calcareous steps and Mediterranean vegetation: the natural matrix characterizes the site and defines its identity by laying the foundations for a hinged space between diffused urban fabric and nature, made of geometries and colors taken from the place and reinterpreted in materials and details, to preserve the same wealth and light vibration.

The compositional research for the architectural project of the new Capri Electric Station has replaced the “hard” image of the industrial complex with an identity capable of bringing the complex in harmony with the environment in which it fits, minimizing the visual impact and enhancing the overall image.

The layout of the new electric station is thus drawn by the terrain’s orography; the calcareous steps that rise from Marina Grande become containment walls or buildings, while vegetation spontaneously occupies the empty spaces and mitigates the volumes, minimizing the visual impact.

The key-words are: context, quality, detail, functionality, timing, cost containment. It works on detail quality, made with ordinary materials but enriched with finishing and mounting details.

For construction is used heavy and light prefabrication, with the specific aim of simplifying the construction site and reducing construction times and maintenance costs.

A new ‘heart’, sensitive to the landscape, to feed the entire island of Capri.
