Henrybuilt Showroom

The project is an extensive renovation of existing 3800 sf space into a showroom for Henrybuilt, a high-end system kitchen, cabinetry, and furniture company from Seattle that was opening its first showroom in the Bay Area.
The building is an existing concrete masonry unit building in Mill Valley that housed an autobody shop for decades. The architectural project for the new Henrybuilt showroom included complete updating and renovation of the existing space, including: new interior walls, new fixtures, lighting, mechanical systems, doors, windows, and finishes. Henrybuilt designed and provided all cabinetry, casework, and furniture.

We organized the space around three dividing walls that would create a series of “rooms” to optimize the product’s visibility and location.

Emphasizing the versatility of Henrybuilt products was a key part of the design process. The company’s other showroom in Manhattan has a refined and highly finished interior. In contrast, the design of the showroom in Mill Valley allowed for the products to be exhibited in more raw and unadorned space. The design of the space intended to reveal and enhance the found quality of the existing structure and its surfaces. Conduit and piping were meticulously re-routed but left visible, and the existing two toned walls were kept, with the colors changing from body-shop blue to white and grey. New construction was placed directly against the shell of the original structure, drawing attention to the juxtaposition of the new and the old.
