Taichung Taiwan Tower

The Taichung Taiwan Tower Competition Entry Submitted by AWA in collaboration with Fredrick Schwartz Architects proposed a delicately laced tower, illuminated in gold and silver.  The concept for the tower’s lighting is based upon 5 key elements, the first being the super structure. Drenched in bright warm illumination from energy efficient LED fixtures integrated into the structure, the dynamic geometry of the steel’s weave is reinforced.  The second element is a skin that shrouds the tower in strips of unfurling mesh.  As gold light passes through, it will gently reflect a subtle glow without any need for additional light sources.  The third element is comprised of a funicular system that glows from a recessed fixture within the track extrusion.  This will effectively back-light the tower, casting a soft glow onto the golden mesh’s surface.  The fourth and fifth elements are the interior program, and the tower of light. The program will glow a cool white light from within.  As the tallest tower in Taiwan, with the highest observation deck in the world, the golden structure’s architecture melds from steel to light as it accelerates upwards as a tower of light powered by Xenon Metal Halide lights, clustered together at the top of the observation deck.
