Project 001. Haven't had an update in a while. Mainly because school just started and I've been working on my first project and here are just some photo booth images of it that I snapped while killing time in Studio.

This non-denominational chapel explores two materials: 4x4 timber and plexi. As one approaches he is met by a massive stacked and leaning timber structure with an angled roof. The whole of the structure seems to almost fall upon the person. However, it sits upon a thick layer of plexi which filters light through from the interior as well as the sides. Resulting is a massive structure "floating" on the planes of Arkansas. The entry is a narrow and dark hallway which acts as a literal and metaphorical threshold. Upon entering one is greeted by two massive stacked plexi staircases which rise up toward an area of overlook. The staircases filter the external light in two ways. my first project of this semester (the one that is just about over, So this is from Late August/Early september). it's also my favorite of the semester. it's a dynamic container. the study of the videocassette was my inspiration. we had to analyze an object (videocassette in my case) and draw some sort of spatial/formal relation and create a container with these ideas.

So, I've finally finished semester 1 of second year. I have some images from my project. I felt like it went pretty well although I wish I had worked out those few things they mentioned. Mainly just further pushing my concept on the design.

The first two are pretty much finished simple renderings of the building in its context. The final one is my physical model somewhere in its early stages. I wanted to have everything laser cut but didn't get the chance to. As usual, it started off very well when I had plenty of time and near the end as time runs out it slowly degrades with each new piece. Hahaha.

Anyway, I'll photo up all my semester projects for my semester portfolio this weekend.

Crunch-Time!!! (kinda)

So I'm sitting in my structures class right now looking at a slide with allowable axial compression streets for steel columns. Exciting or what?.

So my final studio project is due two weeks from today. I've done a good deal of work on it in terms of developing a formal language and trying to adhere to a set of rules I've created. I think it's coming along well and I'm hoping to have the design finalized by Friday at the latest to give me a good week for production. I need to submit my laser cutting materials by the 24th I believe so my design needs to be done by the weekend.

Here's a newer rendering, it doesn't have the third floor or the roof so you can kind of get the major spatial/formal ideas of the main showroom. The building is on a corner site across the street from the new LA Live development (including Staples Center, Nokia Theatre, Ritz Carlton development, etc).

So I haven't updated in a while since my first post. But, meanwhile, history was being made.

I had a rough week and a half but it seems as though everything should be calming down again. Only a few weeks of classes left, it's crunch time! I don't have too much work though, just a paper, a couple of homeworks, and my studio project.

Ooh, wow I guess there's a new mix of Love Lockdown. Sounds nice. There was always something that bugged me with that song's mixing.

So for my history class I had a small presentation to do, but because of some problems I ended up doing three times the work. Each time with a different set of terms and architects. (One of the times I had to research linguistic philosophy throughout the philosophy. That was not easy to figure out) It ended up alright I guess, considering I did the last one all this morning before class at 4:30.

Now that that's over with, time to move my energies to my studio project. Here is a sneak-peek of a rendering I did last week...

Monday of what is going to be one of the rougher weeks of the semester. In studio, we are working on our final project and the mid-term reviews for the project are on Wednesday and Friday. We are to design an Audi Automobile building which includes a showroom, a marque history and exhibition, and a design centre.

Just a little background on our semester thus far before I get into a couple details about the assignment:

The semester was broken into 4 main projects. The first project was a study of Space/Form Morphology and their relationships and dialogue with each other. This project was broken into three parts. We first picked an object (any object. Mine was a video cassette), then analyzed it and did analytical drawings which explored the spatial and formal qualities of the object.
