I went to Dallas and Fort Worth this weekend with my Metaphysics class to visit Kahn's Kimbell Art Museum. We also went to Andos Modern Museum of Art in Fort Worth, the Nasher Sculpture Gallery (Dallas), and the Dallas Museum of Art.

The Kimbell was an amazing space....the quality of light is unmatched. I have to say I was a bit disappointed with Ando's Modern....didn't seem to integrate with the site to well...the outdoor spaces left much to be desired, but the concrete work was pretty damn incredible. Downtown Dallas may have been one of the ugliest places I have visited...but the Nasher was a nice space with a nice collection.

Other than that, the trip back was a big downer, it poured from 9:30 a.m. when we left Dallas until we finally got back to Manhattan at 9:00pm. Along the way, we almost skidded into what seemed like a 2,000 car pile up on I-35 and hydroplaned every ten or twenty minutes from there on out. The trip doesn't normally take 12 hours, but my spark plugs decide...

Last Friday the work of Kstate architecture students was featured in a gallery called "Art Incubator." The exhibit was a part of a celebration of Kstate's 100th year of architecture.

Well”¦let's recap last week:

Hiroshi Hara has come and gone. Besides a brief pin up last Saturday we saw very little of our visiting professor.

We have decided on the last week in November to leave for Tokyo getting back to the State's sometime around the 10th of December.

Studio progress appears to be advancing slowly. However, we have been devoting a substantial amount of time to research, analysis and conceptual development. Our readings include the likes of Stan Allen, Tschumi, Alex Wall”¦I have even entered into the world of landscape architecture with James Corner's book Taking Measure Across the American Landscape. The book has great essays by Corner and amazing photographs by James MacLean.

I will try to post some of our work within the next few days.

Most of my time has been devoted to ARCH 715 “Metaphysics of Architecture: Creativity of the Individual Experience.” Our current readings are Poetics of Space by Gaston Bachelard, The Act of Creation by Arthur, Koestle...
