one day trip into the uncommon pix2006-10-14T21:14:23-04:00>2018-01-30T06:16:04-05:00

Well, here are some pictures, I took them on a short trip to some rural coastal aeras in the northeast of Mexico, around the gulf.. I say uncommon because I don`t go there very often though it´s only a few hours away from my hometown,, the thing is , it is uncommon for me to see how some things survive , anyways.. i hope you enjoy the pics...

The last of the Modernists? pix2006-05-24T13:01:00-04:00>2018-01-30T06:16:04-05:00

I was flipping through Metropolis magazine, and there was this pretty interesting interview with what they called "the last of the modernists", Oscar Niemeyer..

I was actually surprised by I don't know if it was total and brutal honesty or just pure cynicism, but they way he talks about his own work and architecture is at least kinda cool to read, to see someone who doesn't seem to shy away with his answers.

He simply started by saying that he didn't believe in inspiration and that there was so much more to everything, that life is more important than architecture.

He mentions some of his architectural upbringing, but mainly focuses on giving young architects some words of wisdom, and I mean at 98, he must have done something right and we all know that he has seen it all, if no, at least a great deal of it..

"Anyone who is going to be an architect should invest part of his time in the knowledge of humanism" , his advice is to read, read read, and that is the most important...

What I learned in school... pix2006-05-19T12:55:15-04:00>2018-01-30T06:16:04-05:00

Well, my graduation day is approaching... it is exactly 6 days away.. and as time is going by these days, I can only wonder.. What did I learned in school? I have come to the conclussion that pretty much and absolutely ALMOST NOTHING of what I really need in order to work here... unless I want to go overseas and get an intership, that would be great except that it is the biggest of problems just trying to get a visa... but despite that.. I can honestly say that I got some pretty good basic things out of school but nothing really prepares you for the day you gotta take that final walk and step out of your dear school and the safety of your studio workshops... because it is now the real life, and nobody told you how much to charge, nobody taught you how much is this and that and you definitely do not have a little black blook full of all those wonderful engineers and construcion crew ready for the minute you call and say I´ve got work for you..
Anyways, this is in no way a questioni...

history of failed design?? pix2006-02-07T18:42:01-05:00>2018-01-30T06:16:04-05:00

so here we go... and here´s the deal...
recently I started an internship for a magazine on design and architecture... and here is my task..
it is a thematic magazine and the next number out is failed object... my task is to list the top 10 design ( architecture and in general) failures in history i.e. the vw beetle (too much expectation, very short outcome)
I`ve got quite some research and lots to ask...
but here I am, thinking that what better than the archinect community to have something to say about it...
so,
what do you think are the items in overall design and architecture that deserve this title??

what to do when school is over?? David Benitez2005-11-21T18:15:45-05:00>2018-01-30T06:16:04-05:00

what to do after school?

Summer internship at PLOT architects, and my last semester working on the boring courses to finish up my career studies.

Now the real dilemma, what to do after school?

Facing the world as an architect from a so called third world country (mexico) what am i supposed to do?

find other internships around the world to work, start your own practice or work for some local architecture firm?
