My architecture dreams Mariz Youssef2021-05-01T11:51:15-04:00>2022-12-13T23:31:08-05:00

Architecture school was my dream since when I was 12 years old. Now, almost getting to my third year of architecture school, I started to see the future in architecture from a different perspective. It is more than just buildings; it is more for humanity and community.

My dreams are graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and getting my license because I want to work legally in architecture firms. My hope to accomplish after school is traveling around the world to see the architecture in different cultures and how it can inspire me through my architecture designs.

In this class, I learned how Frank Gehry was particularly fascinated by the Greek sculptor and inspired him to express his designs. That encourages and inspires me to make time and money for traveling to experience what Frank Gehry absorbed.

“I’m always trying to express movement; I was fascinated with the fold so basic to our first feelings of love and warmth.”

Also, I learned in San...

But I believe that architecture can bring justice to an environment that was damaged by war.

No one can stop the war; this is out of control.

Imagine that you lost your hometown and couldn't adapt to the life around you that has been destroyed.

How can you stay around your destroyed home?

How can you get your home back?

Can architecture solve the problems of wars and destructions?

Will architecture bring hope to places where there is no hope?

In history:

Post-war, modern architecture, famous architects were significant to the history and growth of the modernist movement by Frank Lloyd Wright, Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier, Richard Neutra, and Alvar Aalto.

The devastation caused by the war was another factor in the rise of modern architecture.

They continued to change the architectural style during the destruction and inspired other architects to learn more about modern architecture. They used a...

How to become a resilient architectural student in your first year of school? Mariz Youssef2021-03-15T10:18:27-04:00>2024-03-15T01:45:58-04:00

First, resilience means quickly recover from challenges and difficulties.
How can it be used in the architecture profession? How will it help you to move forward?

I am a second-year architecture student, and I would like to share my experience of how the first year went.

I remember my first day of school was quite nervous and lost. But I was excited to get to know new people. The first assignment the entire studio class had to do was "fundamental geometric principles to generate and calibrate architectural mass."

We had to learn on our own and also using a new software “Rhino” we have not learned how to use it. Most of us were panicking but there was one different person. Instead of panicking he would look up tutorials and will try to search up a way to learn, adapt, and also will help everyone in the studio that was struggling with using Rhino. Most of us started to help other students and we started to know how to use Rhino.

In my first review project, I failed, and I couldn’t...

My life journey with achieving my dream school “Architecture” Mariz Youssef2021-02-24T23:04:39-05:00>2021-03-04T07:35:23-05:00

Growing up in Egypt, I knew going to architecture school wouldn't come true. Since the culture is gender bias, men overpower women in every aspect of life. Women in the Middle East fight to become architects, engineers, or even structure managers.

Now that I have the opportunity to live in the U.S, I feel obligated to help empower women all over the world. Women who live in the Middle East can’t think of becoming architects.

The culture believes that only men can do such a manly job. I hope that by sharing my personal experience, I will prove them wrong. I hope that one day we can break the stereotype against women in the field of architecture and engineering. I am writing to every woman who wants to be an architect in the Middle East, never give up on your dreams.

I grew up in Egypt thinking I will never make it to architecture school. I almost gave up on my dream until I read this verse in the bible “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Mov...
