If you're an architect looking for a new job right now, you'll quickly find that the job market is currently very much in your favor.

Archinect's job board — the leading English-language job board for the architecture industry — is brimming with open positions, and we're giving you the right tools to find the job that's right for you.

One very handy way to access common searches and get alerts as matching jobs come in is the "Saved Search" tool.

While signed in to your Archinect account, simply search by keyword and/or location (potentially add a search radius around your target city) and click the "save this search" link on top of the search results list.

Give your saved search a succinct name for easy recognition and check the box if you'd like to receive email alerts as matching jobs come in. In our example, we named the search "architect NYC 50mi" for the keyword search "architect" in New York, NY within a 50 mile radius.

We're happy to release some updates to Archinect's Job Application System, as part our ongoing effort to make the hiring process as efficient as possible for the thousands of firms that advertise job opportunities on Archinect.

The Online Job Application System is likely not familiar to most of you, since it's only visible to firms that post jobs, and opt to use the Online Job Application System to organize the applications.

This system was developed, from the beginning, as a cloud-based tool to organize and manage job applicants, allowing recruiters to efficiently browse applications in a consistent format, using Archinect's People profiles/portfolios

For those of you that have used it, these updates will hopefully make your experience that much easier. Here's a summary of the new features:

Announcing Custom URL's - Get your own, short, personalized Archinect web address!

We're very happy to release a long-anticipated feature - custom URL's! This feature is for those of you who have individual profiles, firm profiles, and/or blogs. School profiles can also be customized by the administrators of the profile. Check it out: archinect.com/sci-arc

Get Started
To customize the URL of your people, firm or school profile, just edit your profile settings (click the blue edit icon under your profile image), then scroll down to the field that looks like this:

For blogs, click the "Blog Settings" button in the right column of your blog. As you type your desired name, check to the right of the field to see if it's still available.

Reserve your custom web address now for an easy-to-remember, professional address to share with colleagues, clients and potential employers.

NEW! Include your role and credit others for the projects you upload

Today we've released a small, yet important, update to the projects upload/edit forms - the ability to specifically state your role in the project, and give credit to others involved.

We all know that architecture is almost always a collaborative effort, so it's always important to be specific about your own involvement, especially when you're using your portfolio to apply for jobs or school. Nobody is going to believe you are the only person responsible for that huge mixed-use complex in your portfolio.

So, starting today, we encourage you all to use these fields when uploading new projects, and to go back to your previously uploaded projects to edit and give credit where credit is due (especially when you're getting the credit!)

We're really excited to unleash our latest feature on Archinect... one of the most requested features from our users, in fact... radius searching! This new search ability is applied to the following sections:

To give you an example of how helpful this new feature is, consider that you're looking for a job in Los Angeles - you'll want to limit your search results to all nearby job opportunities. Previously, you would had to enter a specific city, like "Los Angeles, CA, USA", into the search field, but the results would not include all the jobs in cities within, or very near, to LA, such Santa Monica, Culver City, etc. Now, however, you can enter "Los Angeles, CA, USA" and the distance from that location that you're willing to commute.

You can still also search by country or state/province, but radius searching is only available for searching by city or town.

Archinect's new Account Settings page

Good news - accessing and editing your account and profile settings just got a whole lot easier!

We recently launched the completely redesigned Account Edit Settings page which is the new one-stop control center for Archinect users to manage their account and (if applicable) profiles, blogs, job ads, job applications, and Talent Finder subscriptions. We consolidated and simplified a number of separate pages into one easy-to-use page where following adjustments are now just one click away:

My Account: Edit your username, email, password, and email notifications.
My Profiles: Don't have an Archinect Profile yet? Simply start one right from here! - And if you already manage a People, Firm, and/or School Profile, you can easily edit and add information on it.
My Blogs: Start your own blog on Archinect and control all blog settings in this section.
My Jobs:
For Employers: Here you can easily post a new listing to the Archinect Job Board, check on your current listin...

Introducing the School Student/Alumni/Faculty Project Galleries

Yesterday we quietly released an exciting new addition to the School Profiles. The new project galleries showcase the work of students, alumni and faculty from each school.

Want to add your work to your school's project gallery? It's easy - just add your projects to your portfolio in your profile, and make sure that your school is indicated in the academic and/or work experience sections of your Archinect profile/resume.

Are you one of those people who have spent hours... days... weeks... months... perfecting your print portfolio? If so, you're probably one of those people who has wished you could share all that hard work on your Archinect profile. Well, we have good news for you today!

PDF portfolios embedded on Archinect can be viewed full screen, with full zooming to see the tiniest drawing detail clearly. Image above is taken from Toshiki Hirano's Archinect profile

All of you with an Archinect People profile can now embed your PDF portfolio by embedding your profile with Issuu. We've been really impressed with how Issuu handles PDF viewing on the web, and apparently it's the most popular PDF-hosting service for Archinectors too. So if you have a PDF portfolio ready to share, embed that full-screen goodness now to take your job applications to the next level.

Lil' update: resolving confusion between private and public profile URL

We've received some confused emails from some of our members recently, indicating when a link to a profile is sent to potential employers, the employer reports that the link doesn't properly direct to the profile.

The reason is because when you access your own profile from the button in the navigation bar, it (used to) take you to a special URL for only you to view and edit your profile, so when you copy/paste this URL to send to people it wouldn't work... because you were the only person with access to that page.

We have since changed the way this works. Now whenever you are viewing your profile you can refer people to the same URL that you access when you visit your profile.

I hope that helps for all you that have reported similar problems.

Change to the Archinect portfolio project page template

As many of you have informed us, the project page template for people & firm portfolios was often encountering functionality problems in the Chrome browser. We've changed the format of the project page, so this problem should now be resolved.

As you can see in this example, a project uploaded by UNStudio, the project page now displays all project images in a single page. All of the images can be enlarged upon click. No more thumbnails and clicking through to view the images. We think most of you will prefer this format over the old format. We do!
