Regardless of what plans my siblings and parents had, they were always met with the disappointment of either waiting too long to discover what they want or giving up in the process of pursuing their dreams.

Regardless of what occurred, they all eventually led to working for themselves. So, in retrospect from seeing my families' mistakes and hardships. I decided that whatever dream I had would be worth pursing and at the end of it I would work for myself in this field of business I chose. Personally, in five to ten years I s...
https://archinect.com/blog/article/150260320/from-baby-boomers-to-millennials-and-how-they-operate-in-architecture From Baby Boomers to Millennials and how they operate in Architecture Rafael Aguilar 2021-04-21T20:15:00-04:00 >2024-03-15T01:45:58-04:00

In my third year of architecture school, I had a professor who was very old-fashioned in projecting his teaching style. Whenever he assisted any student, he would always offer references from movies, tv shows, and architects from more of his era. His references ran from the original avengers in the 1963 (not the avengers we know today through the hit blockbuster movie The Avengers) from the 2001 Space Odessey movie. The 2001 Space Odessey was a movie typically about astronauts in space. There ship was this revolving space craft that had perfect symmetry. He referenced that whenever a student had trouble with the concept of symmetry. Unfortunately, most students didn’t really understand his references other than me. Most students were from generation z and the other millennial students didn’t understand him either. The point that I’m trying to make is that my professor preferred his more old-school methods and philosophy. That’s why he made it his absolute goal to teach us his way of...

https://archinect.com/blog/article/150259027/the-effect-of-an-architects-design The effect of an architects Design Rafael Aguilar 2021-04-12T05:51:28-04:00 >2024-03-15T01:45:58-04:00

As an aspiring architect, I’d like to believe that the interpretation of an architect's design for tells their personality and represents the society they live in. We can learn how a certain style that matches their personalities can impact society. The people who inhabited an area can describe the decades of history. It can be seen as obsolete structures that ponder us as why it was created this particular way, or it could a magnificent structure that was ahead of its time. Regardless of being obsolete or an innovative design. It’s important enough to point out the ideas before our time were recycled and reused today. A way of moving forward while still carrying on past traditions out of respect.

Since the beginning of time, humans have relied on some form of shelter. That form of shelter conveys how we occupy our lives. The origin of architecture creates an environment that people accustom to as a culture. The EMBT for example, designed the Shenshen Conservatory of Music that cul...
https://archinect.com/blog/article/150256025/materials-and-architecture Materials and Architecture Rafael Aguilar 2021-03-22T03:06:09-04:00 >2024-03-08T10:46:09-05:00
Materials and Architecture are almost considered as yin and yang. One cannot exist without the other. By that, I mean to say how in order for an architect to show his or her expression. They must incorporate materiality. Materiality in architecture is a core identity to the architect's fruition. The influential aspect in all the above-mentioned ideas can be attributed to the value of material choices. Architects like Peter Zumthor, Kengo Akuma, and Zaha Hadid, are in my opinion, amazing examples of using materials to express their designs that came into fruition. Regardless of even using one or two materials, they still manage to manifest their identity through their choice of materiality.

Before entering college and fully pledging myself to earning a career as an architect. I always speculated that materiality was merely just a front to a building. I only thought that materials in architecture were necessary for holding the structure. Even though half of what I said is true. A structure located in New York City and one of the first places I visited in New York city.

On my trip, the first thing I noticed was the network of patterns. Patterns that give the building a certain appeal. It’s a basic structure that was created to add harmony and balance within a grid of vertical metal and glass. In music, patterns are a very common factor that makes a majority of the musi...
