I have a deep love for the sport. Basketball has always been a recurring topic in all the things I do. One of my greatest memories growing up was the summer of 8th grade because I was playing daily with the intentions to elevate my game to join the basketball team my freshman year of high school. I would play two or three times a day, rotating from park to park to play against anyone who was on a basketball court. I would never forget how great I felt doing something every single day that brought me so much joy.

Fast forwarding to the present time, it’s pretty saddening seeing some of the places that I’ve made so many great memories become abandoned and unloved. The rims, the nets, and even the floor is not in such good condition like they used to. These places can be in a bad condition where it’s not safe or fun to play in anymore.

A Goal

Thinking about the future is sometimes intimidat...
https://archinect.com/blog/article/150259110/the-game-of-architecture The Game of Architecture Jorge Ruiz 2021-04-12T14:43:14-04:00 >2024-05-01T20:43:13-04:00
Great basketball players don’t become great players overnight. Just like great architects don’t become great architects overnight. It begins with understanding the game, learning the fundamentals, and breaking down footage. This strategy applies to both basketball and the practice architecture. I will discuss how we can use basketball as a way of studying architecture and becoming more knowledgeable of what came before us and how we can apply it to improve our craft.

Understanding the Game

In order to become successful in the development of our craft we need to understand what we’re getting into. There should be something in the back of our minds guiding us with the reasons why we’re doing what we’re doing for choosing this profession and understanding it to have a fulfilling career. Not only are we going to be dedicating a good amount of our time into it. We are also going to want to know where we want to improve in and want to be great at.

Fundamentals

Every basketball vide...
https://archinect.com/blog/article/150255001/thank-you-architecture-school Thank You Architecture School Jorge Ruiz 2021-03-15T19:14:00-04:00 >2024-03-15T01:45:58-04:00
From my time at architecture school so far there has been so many lessons that I have learned aside from the profession of architecture. I have had professors say that architecture is somewhat of a gateway profession. Branching out to do something else that you’re interested in that was sparked from architecture school is okay. There has been many iconic people that have studied within the realm of architecture that have later on found themselves doing something else. I believe it is the level of thinking that has for sure led them to discover an inventiveness opportunity in their own interest.

VIRGIL ABLOH

Virgil Abloh a well-known icon for his brand Off-White started his career with studying architecture. He has then branched out and has created so much from furniture, performance sets, art works, and graphic design projects. He has collaborated with big names and has great success. His combination of ideas of streetwear, luxury, art, music and travel has definitely changed th...
https://archinect.com/blog/article/150251663/the-shoes-on-my-feet-can-be-the-building-that-i-see The Shoes on my Feet, can be the Building that I See Jorge Ruiz 2021-02-24T13:45:44-05:00 >2024-03-15T01:45:58-04:00

Footwear is apart of our lifestyle. If it’s used for working out, going to work, going to school or simply lounging around. Every shoe has a purpose and is intended to satisfy those purposes. The biggest shoe brands like Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Asics, etc have found their audience and have catered for their customers needs and are continuing to satisfy those purposes in the best evolutionary way possible.

Signature athlete shoes lead most of these top brands. By the creation of a high performing sneaker for each in their respective fields. No athlete is alike so every performance shoe will differ in design to fit the style of the player and to enhance the player’s performance.

Basketball shoes and running shoes are two completely different styles of shoes designed to create the best possible experience. Runners are made with the intention of a forward motion. Designed for comfortability with enough support and cushioning all in a light weight shoe for longer or shorter r...
