The Flint House wins RIBA House of the Year 2015

Built on the flint-rich fields of the countryside Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire, the Flint House was recently announced as the winner of RIBA's coveted House of the Year award during a TV broadcast on Britain's Channel 4. Formerly called the Manser Medal, House of the Year still holds the same purpose of distinguishing the year's most innovative house designed by a UK-based architect. RIBA and Channel 4 featured the shortlisted homes in a weekly TV series called "Grand Designs: RIBA House of the Year" throughout this past month.

The Flint House lives up to its name, designed as if the surrounding flint-surfaced landscape was emerging. Designed by Skene Catling De La Peña to accommodate visiting relatives as well as artists, the most distinctive element of the house on first glance is the textured flint cladding and its dark-to-chalk-white gradient. The 2014 winners of the Manser Medal and Stephen Lawrence Prize

Following RIBA's announcement of the 2014 Stirling Prize winner, two more UK-based projects won big in the 2014 Manser Medal and the Stephen Lawrence Prize competitions. The Stormy Castle in Wales by Loyn & Co. Architects received the Manser Medal, which is the UK's highest housing design award. The Stephen Lawrence Prize, which recognizes fresh architectural talent and smaller construction budgets, went to a residential project this year: House No 7 in Scotland by Denizen Works.

RIBA has announced the 2014 shortlists for the Manser Medal - Best New House in the UK and the Stephen Lawrence Prize. Check out these stellar projects below.

MANSER MEDAL - Best New House in the UK

The Manser Medal was established in 2001 to honor former RIBA President and notable home designer Michael Manser CBE. It recognizes private homes or major extensions that are deemed to be exemplary of innovation, sustainability, and style, and were also completed within the past year by a UK architect.

Out of the 23 longlisted projects announced earlier this summer, the jury shortlisted these six houses:

The longlist is out for this year's RIBA Manser Medal for Best New House in the UK. Established in 2001 to honor former RIBA President and notable home designer Michael Manser CBE, the Manser Medal is awarded to the best new house design by a UK-based architect. This year's longlist showcases 23 UK-based private homes or major extension that exhibit innovation, sustainability, and style and were completed within the past year.

Also presented with institute honors that night were two projects which represent the UK's most excellent small projects: the 2013 Manser Medal for the best new home went to Slip House by Carl Turner Architects, and the 2013 Stephen Lawrence Prize in recognition of fresh talent and smaller construction budgets went to Montpelier Community Nursery by AY Architects.
