<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/ef/efb1c86f486472157059debf25aa81eb.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p><strong></strong>The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design has announced the winners of <a href="https://www.internationalarchitectureawards.com/winners/" target="_blank">The International Architecture Awards</a> for 2021. </p>
<p>Organized by The Chicago Athenaeum and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, the program celebrates the world’s best and most boundary-pushing buildings and urban planning projects. A shortlist of 400 projects had been selected from over 800 entries from 46 countries. </p>
<p>“These global awards show how well-considered, well-delivered, and well-performing architecture has the immense potential to improve lives and communities,” said The Chicago Athenaeum Museum President and CEO, Christian Narkiewicz-Laine. “We are very pleased to be able to celebrate some of the most innovative, ingenious and impactful architecture in the world—designed by some of the most talented architects of our time.”</p>

<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/52/526cc42ed804a7543b2f5869c2811ee3.jpeg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>The <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/414273/bureau-of-overseas-buildings-operations" target="_blank">Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO)</a>, responsible for providing facilities abroad for the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/414272/u-s-department-of-state" target="_blank">United States Department of State</a> and the U.S government, at large, has selected 12 Architectural and Engineering (A/E) firms for the Worldwide Architectural and Engineering Support Services Indefinite Delivery / Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) from a shortlist of 25. </p>
<p>As <a href="https://www.state.gov/the-bureau-of-overseas-buildings-operations-announces-award-for-worldwide-architectural-and-engineering-support-services/" target="_blank">detailed</a> by the U.S. Department of State, the firms will provide program-level process and procedure-improvement support and conduct surveys and analyses for existing facilities. They will also assist with master plans, security mitigation studies, site expansion studies, project phasing analysis, and historic structures survey. </p>

The Awards celebrate the world's best international architecture practices and examples of global architecture. </p>
<p>With a shortlist of 350 projects the jury selected winning projects from 41 nations. According to The Chicago Athenaeum museum president Christian Narkiewicz-Laine, "Shaping the built environment is a tough challenge for anyone, and the architects and innovators herefrom across the architecture market have an important role to play in transforming the way we see the world."</p>

<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/61/61363317ecb478bb7eab3fc666a36494.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>The Yiwu Grand Theater's larger than life presence along the Dongyang River is not all for show. <a href="https://archinect.com/madarchitects" target="_blank">MAD Architects</a> aims to create a structure that will be a "monument for the city<em>.</em>" Envisioned as an immersive public space for inhabitants and visitors alike, the overall design for the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/7561/theater" target="_blank">theater</a> will function as a beautiful cultural destination intending on "connecting inhabitants to the waterfront from a new perspective," according to MAD's recent press release. </p>

Image © MAD Architects</figcaption></figure><p>The entrancing <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/11361/glass" target="_blank">glass</a> sails are designed to mimic the traditional Chinese junks that filled the waters of the city traditionally known for its trading history. Considered a growing center for international trade and commerce, MAD decided to use the curves from the sails of these <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/584260/ships" target="_blank">ships</a> to express a weightless and transparent design for the theater's <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/149141/canopy" target="_blank">canopy</a>. </p>

One winner will be awarded a £7,000 grant by a panel of judges, which will include Lord Foster and RIBA President Ben Derbyshire.</p>
<p>Now in its 11th year, the scholarship focuses on international research, in a location of the student’s choice, related to the survival of towns and cities. Previous winners have travelled through the Americas, Europe, Africa, South East Asia, the Middle, and Russia.</p>

It comprises three additional classrooms, a library and a covered external classroom with a sunken play area, which doubles as a small amphitheatre. </p><p><img title="" alt="" src="http://cdn.archinect.net/images/650x/3y/3yppj3u1n3bwb5xz.jpg"></p><p>Until now the school in Khyaung village, 40km north east of Phnom Penh City, has catered for 359 pupils aged 3-17 in two old buildings. In a race against time among other challenging factors, the philanthropic effort aims to conserve the world's architectural landmarks of the 20th century.</p><p>The Foundation states Keeping it Modern will address the pressing issues involved with the conservation of modern architectural heritage through the support for key model projects. Established by Harvard GSD in 1935, the prize awards a $100,000 travel-based research grant to an early-career architect worldwide whose proposal best conveys original, scholarly, and professional design. Since 2013, the prize is applicable to any architect who graduated within the last 15 years from a professionally accredited architecture degree program. Emphasizing international research, the winner must spend at least six months working outside of their home country and not in the U.S.</p><p>The 2014 competition received nearly 200 submissions from 46 countries. This year's jury featured GSD Dean Mohsen Mostafavi; GSD professors; and architects Jorge Silvetti, Iñaki Abalos, and Silvia Benedito; Museum of Modern Art architecture curator Pedro Gadanho; New York architect Linda Pollak of Marpillero Pollak; and Shohei Shigematsu, partner of OMA and its New York office director.</p><p>The jury selected the following finalists:</p><p><strong>Jose...</strong></p>

As its name states, the competition challenges participants to solve a complex and socially relevant problem in exactly 120 hours, or 5 days. 120 Hours 2014 begins once the assignment is revealed on Monday, Feb. 17 at 14:00 (GMT+1) and ends on Saturday, Feb. 22. Three winning proposals will be selected. <br><br>120 Hours has grown immensely since its inception in 2010. Last year's edition brought in a record-breaking 420 student teams from 103 Universities in 44 countries.
