Edoardo Tresoldi's installation 'Monumento' opens the Chipperfield-restored Procuratie Vecchie with a timely message on fragility

To coincide with the long-awaited public opening of Venice’s iconic Procuratie Vecchie, Italian artist Edoardo Tresoldi has produced an installation that helps highlight the mission and function of its newly reclaimed space.

Titled ‘Monumento’ and taking as its backdrop the 16th-century monumental staircase restored by David Chipperfield Architects as part of its five-year renovation project, the installation presents a subversion of the traditional thinking and rhetoric that surrounds monuments worldwide.

Using his standby wire mesh material, Tresoldi was able to replicate past installations in New York and Abu Dhabi using the column itself as a kind of 50-foot-high metaphorical guidepost standing between societal values and contemporary life. Edoardo Tresoldi has unveiled the latest of his signature wire mesh cathedrals, with his installation titled “Sacral” currently on display in the Italian city of Ravenna. Designed for the Dante exhibition at the MAR, Ravenna’s art museum, Sacral is currently on display in the museum’s cloister until January 9th, 2022.

The installation forms part of “A POP Saga,” the third exhibition in the “Dante. The Eyes and the Mind” series at the MAR. In the design of Sacral, Tresoldi drew inspiration from the Noble Castle in Dante’s Inferno, a symbolic place inhabited by the souls of those who left honor and fame behind after death. “They are the great souls of antiquity,” says Tresoldi, “philosophers, poets, scientists and writers — with grave and slow-moving eyes. People who were great in their earthly lives because of their moral qualities but who are destined to eternal suffering because they lack the theological virtues.”

Etherea, the installation created by Edoardo Tresoldi for the 2018 Coachella festival, has arrived in Rome for Back to Nature, an exhibition project curated by Constantino d'Orazio.

The work is made from three translucent sculptures reminiscent of Neoclassical and Baroque architecture. Contemplative in nature, Etherea focuses on the phenomenological aspects of architecture. The use of transparent wire mesh radiates a sense of mirage and the celestial.

Opera, the new public art permanent installation by Edoardo Tresoldi on Reggio Calabria's seafront, will be inaugurated on September 12th and 13th. The opening will host a series of music, performance, and poetry events administered in compliance with current COVID-19 guidelines.

"Opera was created to celebrate the contemplative relationship between place and the human being through the language of classical architecture and the transparency of the Absent Matter, a relationship through wire mesh," writes Tresoldi in a statement.

The permanent installation consists of a colonnade of 46 pillars peaking at 8 meters at their highest points within a 2,500 square meter park. The project is due to become a new landmark for the region.

Edoardo Tresoldi has unveiled Opera, his new public art permanent installation on Reggio Clabria's seafront in Italy. Construction began this month, and it is due to open in September of this year. The structure consists of a colonnade of 46 pillars peaking at 8 meters at their highest point within a 2,500-square-meter park.

Of the project, Tresoldi said in a statement: "Opera was created to emphasize the character of place through the built element, thus suggesting an additional layer of understanding. I tried to build a place of contemplation and to investigate the role of public art today, which I believe should be able to embrace the present."

A large-scale wire-mesh sculpture, suspended from the ceiling of Cathédrale restaurant in New York City, is the first commissioned artwork by Tresoldi Studio, the new design outlet founded by Italian artist Edoardo Tresoldi.

Dubbed Fillmore, the installation takes inspiration from the historic architecture of the legendary Fillmore East concert hall in Manhattan's Lower East Side that once hosted The Doors, Janis Joplin, Elton John, and many others. The restaurant is part of Moxy East Village hotel designed by Rockwell Group.

Gates just opened at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and for the next two weekends, droves of festival goers will flock to the small town of Indio, California to see their favorite bands, performers (Beyoncé, anyone?)—and a host of large-scale art installations by emerging artists, designers, and architects.

One of the most anticipated pieces this year is the site-specific installation Etherea by Italian artist Edoardo Tresoldi, who gained enormous popularity worldwide with his stunning wire mesh sculptures inspired by classical architecture. Even though Tresoldi has collaborated with a number of music festivals before, such as Life Is Beautiful, Roskilde, The Secret Garden Party, Eaux Claires, and DERIVE, this new Etherea installation is Tresoldi's biggest artwork to date and is also the largest of the Coachella art pieces.

Just a few more days until the anticipated 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival swings its doors open, and huge crowds, that have made the pilgrimage to this Southern California desert valley, get to enjoy the season's hippest music as well as various large-scale art installations by emerging artists, architects, and designers.

Announced to present a three-piece installation at the festival is Italian artist Edoardo Tresoldi, who made quite a splash with some of his recent architectural wire mesh sculptures—resembling holograms of classical architectures past.

Tresoldi—named by Forbes as one of the 30 most influential European artists under 30—is currently in Coachella, working on the installation, but images will be under tight wraps until the first day of the festival, April 13.

Edoardo Tresoldi builds a ghostly wire mesh structure in Abu Dhabi

Last year, artist Edoardo Tresoldi made waves with his wire mesh sculpture in Foggia, Italy. Installed adjacent to the basilica of Siponto, the sculpture is a full-size cathedral in its own right, built on the ruins of an older church that once stood on the site. The wire mesh creates an ethereal, spectral appearance, like a hologram or a project. Now, the artist has returned with another stunning installation—a massive event space for a royal event in Abu Dhabi.

Covering a 7,000 square meter space, the installation was built over three months. Like the sculpture in Foggia, this one is made of wire mesh and references classical architecture. After the event, pieces of the installation will be reinstalled separately in universities, parks and museums across the city.
