Six architecture students selected for MAD 2018 Travel Fellowship

MAD Architects has announced the winners of their 2018 Travel Fellowship! For this year's edition, Ma Yansong only selected six architecture students from around the globe to travel abroad so they can conduct further research for their architectural topic of choice. Some of the travel destinations this time around include Mexico, Switzerland, Uzbekistan, North Korea, and Japan, to name a few.

Here's a first glimpse at the winning proposals:

Ma Yansong to select 2018 MAD Travel Fellowship student recipients next month

It's already time for another edition of MAD Architects' 2018 Travel Fellowship. Established by Ma Yansong in 2009, the competitive program sponsors current university architecture students for overseas travel to conduct field work and further research into an architectural topic of their choice. The 2018 application deadline is June 8.

For its ninth edition, the fellowship will support five international students who will get to travel to China, and five Chinese students who will use the fellowship funds to travel outside of China. Ma Yansong will evaluate the submissions and select the candidates, and the fellowship recipients are expected to be announced June 13.

To date, the fellowship has sponsored 45 students. Looking back at the 2017 recipients, they collectively traveled to over 40 cities in 10 countries. Want an idea of some of the winning proposals? Here's a glimpse at some of last year's winning submissions:

Today, MAD Architects announced the 10 architecture students who won the 2017 MAD Travel Fellowship in its first global edition. Without a doubt, competition ran high. Out of 500 hopeful applicants, MAD selected the architecture research proposals of five international students who will get to travel to China, as well as five Chinese students who will use the fellowship funds to travel outside of China. MAD announces the 2017 Architecture Travel Fellowship for students

Back in 2009, Ma Yansong of MAD started a fellowship for young architects. Dubbed the MAD Architecture Travel Fellowship, it sends five international students to China, and five Chinese students out of the country. It's an incredibly simple application process: just submit a letter explaining your interests in architecture alongside a CV and a portfolio to travel@i-mad.com.
