Sales of High Line condos at Zaha Hadid's 520 West 28th Street sluggish

The high-end condo building at 520 W. 28th St. along the High Line that the company completed roughly two years ago appears so far to be a rare bust. According to property records, only 16 of the building's 39 units have sold, a roughly 40% sell through that shrinks to an even smaller percentage when measured by square footage. That's because the building's largest and most expensive apartments, including its three penthouse units, all remain unsold.

It's only been a few months since Zaha Hadid Architects' 520 West 28th development officially opened in Manhattan, and with its photogenic steel-and-glass split level facade, the 11-story condo mid-rise has quickly become a popular landmark of the adjacent High Line park.

For an upcoming Hat Party-themed fundraiser event, hosted by Friends of the High Line, Patrik Schumacher and his team have fired up the parametric design engines one more time and created the head covering complimenting the building, the H-Line.

"The fluid chevrons of 520 West 28th’s façade weave up the building, conveying its split levels and demarcating each residence within," explains the design description. "The H-Line hat echoes these chevrons, weaving around the wearer with open and closed forms."

New photos reveal the beauty of Zaha Hadid Architects' completed 520 West 28th Street facade

Zaha Hadid Architects have released new Hufton+Crow photographs of the recently completed 520 West 28th Street development—and they're pretty stunning.

Standing smack adjacent to Manhattan's famed High Line, the 11-story residential mid-rise is certainly a formidable first project in New York City for ZHA. Since we published initial renderings back in 2013, readers speculated about the quality of the highly animated facade, and these new photographs allow a good glimpse of the impressive workmanship that went into hand-brushing and hand-tinting the curvy steel exterior.

The facade reveals the 21 interlaced split levels in a dramatic fashion, echoing the multiple layers of civic space on 28th Street and the High Line, according to the architects.

Closings commenced at the late Zaha Hadid‘s futurist 520 West 28th Street at the end of June. According to a press release from developer Related, now that move-ins are underway, the architects have revealed the fully amenitized interiors, which include one of the world’s first private IMAX theaters, a 75-foot sky-lit lap pool, a High Line-adjacent terrace and landscaped courtyard, and a fitness center complete with a 24-hour juice bar and plunge pool.

The Society of American Registered Architects New York Council recently awarded its top 2017 Project of the Year accolade to the 520 West 28th Street residential complex designed by Zaha Hadid Architects in collaboration with Ismael Leyva Architects. Adjacent to The High Line in the heart of West Chelsea, the sculptural 11-story development features 21 interlaced floors and 39 distinctive residential units up to 6,391 square feet and ceiling heights up to almost 11 feet high. The project is due for completion later this year.

Related Companies has released images revealing the interior of the late Dame Zaha Hadid’s 520 West 28th building. For the residence in the first images, the designer Jennifer Post was commissioned to provide furniture and decor.

"I am usually the creative visionary behind both the architecture and interior design of a space. Here, I am respectfully creating a vision that coexists with the vision of one of architecture's greatest minds," states Post. “This prompted me to really consider every move, every decision in a different, special way."

The 4500 sq. ft., four-bedroom home in the first set of images images could be yours for just $15M. It comes with views of the High Line and Empire State Building.

Alongside Post’s design, West Chin, the principal of West Chin Architects, designed the interior of a $4.9M, 1700 sq. ft. residence—the lowest end of the spectrum for the building. The higher end tops of at $50M.

When the architecture community learned of the passing of Zaha Hadid in late March, it came as a bit of consolation that her first and only building in New York, 520 West 28th Street, had already begun to take shape along the High Line, ensuring that her legacy would last in our skyline. In much welcome news, 6sqft learns today that yet another design of hers will rise just three blocks away in Chelsea.

The Moinian Group worked with the late Zaha Hadid on one of her final creations, 220 Eleventh Avenue in West Chelsea. The building will be a collection of loft-like condos and penthouses, as well as a cultural institution that will be a hub of the Chelsea art district. Construction is expected to begin in 2017.

The cherry atop 520 West 28th, Penthouse 37 contains five bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms, including a corner master suite with two windowed dressing rooms and his-and-hers baths nestled on its lower level, which also houses three guest en-suite bedrooms, a utility room, and a wet bar.

Running at a little over $7,269 a square foot, Zaha Hadid's one and only High Line-adjacent luxury penthouse design features a sinuous metal exterior with floor to ceiling glass windows between 10th and 11th avenues in Chelsea. Ismael Levya Architects worked with Zaha Hadid Architects to create the 39-unit condominium, which offers starter units at $25 million.
