ENOTA turns an outdated wellness center into a soothing vacation escape

ENOTA architects turns a classic health center into a relaxing modern spa fit for adults and kids. The main focus of the renovation was to create a space that would satisfy the current needs of the visitors. Its construction was gradual, tackling pieces of the structure instead of renovating all at once. The developers and architectural team from ENOTA strived to create a space that focused on how the building design would interact with its surrounding environment as well as its guests.

The Termalija Family Wellness facility was built in the former outdoor pool area. Previously, the outdoor space had a covering that enabled guests to enjoy the pool during both summer and winter months. However, this outdoor covering proved to pose a visual and functional issue. To resolve this, a new roofing design was developed to allow for the pool space to be fully covered without obtrusive support beams or a flat appearance.

Between a 16th century church and a wooden barn: the Chimney House by dekleva gregorič architects

Nestled between a 16th century church and a wooden barn, the Slovenia-based firm dekleva gregorič architects have designed the Chimney House to both follow the rules of local architecture while marking a typological transformation based on the users' specificity. The architects have used vernacular materials—oiled larch board cladding the outside and oiled oak for the the interior—while innovating on the shape of the home, playing off the prevailing gabled roof typology common to the region. The distinguishing shape further references the neighboring church.

The house draws its name—the Chimney House—partially from the architects choice to use the form of this traditional fixture. The exterior incorporates this typology into the shape of the house. The element rises up between the two gables bringing in light from above and creating a continuous skylight , or perhaps a "chimney of light," into the house. Whether your bout of electora nerviosa ended in celebration or mourning, you may be looking for a little peace and quiet. OFIS arhitekti's recently completed winter cabin on Mount Kanin, Slovenia (home country of our next First Lady) is about as isolated as you can get—its materials had to be helicoptered in, and visitors must scale the mountain on foot to reach it.

Once you do, you've got a shelter to view the gorgeous Slovenian and Italian landscape below, all the way to the Adriatic Sea. Don't forget to bring firewood though.

The weather on Mount Kanin can get pretty extreme, snowing up to ten meters in the winter, with snow persisting for over half the year. Not to mention powerful winds, landslides, and earthquakes, as well as numerous caves and abysses. Sadar+Vuga’s Air Traffic Control Center (ATCC) in Slovenia continues to gain recognition

Things have been looking up for Sadar+Vuga's Air Traffic Control Center at Airport Ljubljana in Slovenia. Since the ATCC officially opened in May 2013, it has picked up some awards throughout the year including: the Iconic Award 2013 from the German Design Coucil and the Golden Pencil 2013, which acknowledges excellent realization in the architecture field. Most recently, the ATCC was nominated for the Piranesi Award 2013.

Winning Kindergarten “Mavrica” in Brežice, Slovenia

Among 64 submissions, a team of Slovenian architects was assigned the 1st prize in the open competition for the kindergarten „Mavrica“ in the small town of Brežice, Slovenia. The municipality of Brežice in cooperation with the Chamber of Architecture and the Spatial Planning of Slovenia had invited applications for this public project. The winning team comprises Ljubljana architects Breda Bizjak, Lidija Dragišić M.A., Katja Florjanc, Emir Jelkić, and Ajda Vogelnik Saje.
